Alfie, he has it listed as an auction, and has got some bids on it, but he is prepared to take it off eBay for xxxx price.

Hubby is going to wait until 2pm to see if the weather calms down, if not he will pick it up tomorrow, which is fine with the seller.

Have already taken pics of loafs of stuff, and the items are still in my car, so will prob bring them in and list them later

Awful weather here, I was planning to go to Edinburgh for the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society Spring Show but didn't fancy the motorways in torrential rain and wind. Too bad :(

Anyhow did get as far as a couple of nurseries, inc. Binny Plants so have quite a haul of out the ordinary plants. Will post the list after I unload the car.

    EDIT -

    Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Weisse Schwan'
    Trollius europaeus (globe flower)
Allium 'Mont Blanc' supposedly one of the tallest alliums
    Rheum 'Ace of Hearts'
Selinum Carvifolium, a form of cow parsley
Angelica archangelica, supposedly can get to 2m!
    Peucedanum verticillare, giant fennel
    Aconitum carmichaelii 'Arendsii'

The last 4 are not to be trifled with, but will hopefully give the height variety the garden lacks.

Also picked up two brassia orchids for £1 each, obviously the flowers had dropped but quickly repotted and they may repeat this year.

    Hi All,

Phoebe my condolence. My Mum died from Alzheimer's & it was an awful time - years of dying. I think you do a lot of grieving whilst they are still alive. Hope things are easier. It is such an awful disease.

Thank you Choille (and Maggie too who posted the other day) xxx

I know, it's a terrible disease - and one that I feel gets overlooked considering the number of sufferers, not to mention the ageing population. Since February 2013 we've had three parents die from Dementia of different strains and DS has lost his remaining three grandparents :(:(:(

Still awaiting news from the Coroner's Office regarding the post mortem - but as they mentioned five working days it could be as late as Wednesday before we hear anything and we'll be hard pushed to get her death registered before Easter. Then we have the issue of the nursing home *mislaying* her wedding ring

Anyway, have been trying to chillax and do some other stuff to take my mind off things as there's really very little I can achieve till all the paperwork is sorted.....so we had an afternoon at Wightwick Manor on Friday and a quick whizz round the garden centres today (or rather we were blown around them - in one a whole load of large ceramic planters were sent crashing to the ground by the huge gusts of wind :(), where we picked up a Trachycarpus Fortunei and large Phormium as well as a Magnolia tree to fill some gaps in one of the flower beds :)

Tomorrow morning our new kitchen units are due to be delivered and getting that fitted (courtesy of DH ;)) is something to look forward to, although we still have to source worktops (marble - don't want granite this time) and hob etc.....

Dave - you guys have been working so hard and you deserve some time off as having builders in the house 24/7 is as stressful as doing all the physical labour yourself imho. That pic of the wall being demolished reminded me of the ones we took down around this time last year - my poor back took weeks to recover and I don't plan to do that again! How long till the whole house is finished now?

IHS - you're going to be busy (as usual!) - your garden should look great again this year :)

HI ALL ..... well the wind is still windy here !! all my heavy stone statues have gone over.. no point picking them up yet. garden bench went too. the geese have kept their heads down in slightly windless corners. dogs have never piddled so fast to get back indoors.. I opened one garage door and the contents shook so I shut it quick... I need to pull stuff out and couldn't risk it all crashing about ! so if wind has dropped tomorrow then it will get done... hope everyone is safe... wonder if ctc managed their collection...

Hmmm...hard to be sure, but I'd hope we'll be finished with bashing down walls and rebuilding them in the next 6 weeks.:)

I dare say other work will trundle-on all through the summer, and I'm sure hard landscaping will go into 2016. :o

There's still so much to do, it's scary!

The wind & rain relented a bit in the afternoon; enough for us to move more into the barn and have a small bonfire anyway.

    Morning all,

well the sun is for now lol

Alfie, yes hubby and our friend ( that you seen when you were here) went to get it yesterday afternoon... they took the old roads back instead of the motorway... and couldn't go over 40mph without he trailer 'floating' around....so just need to line out with catering grade boards... put a few 'gubbings' in there, and away to go..( after all the formal stuff )

sticky keyboard again, taken me about 10 mins to post this, so going on my notepad now lol

    People have end dates?

    Impressive! :T

I just look in to the abyss future of never finishing, but always having something to do.
  • Morning indeed, what a difference a day makes!

I had to go to Bristol yesterday, the drive down the M4 in the morning was just awful! I even stopped to check the van was ok, it felt like the steering was going - my tyres were a 'tad' underinflated :o but even after I sorted that it was just as bad!

I went on a crafty course using glass, it was fab, made loads of bits which they fired overnight and will send on, so I haven't seen the finished pieces yet. And lunch provided from Pret a Manger, yum!

The drive back was just as windy but without the rain, then the bloomin oil light came on about 20 miles from home. I will get to the garage Asap!

So it was a long old day, got up at 5 (so 4!) got to bed about 10.30, needless to say I didn't set my alarm this morning, I still woke at normal time but didn't move for a while!

Dave - you guys have been working so hard and you deserve some time off as having builders in the house 24/7 is as stressful as doing all the physical labour yourself imho.

You've hit the nail on the head there Phoebe. It is hard to keep up with builders when you've got other stuff to do.

We want to do our kitchen next but can't agree on how to proceed. Get the builders in for a week or two of total mayhem, and do the lot?

Or do it in little stages over a longer time and I can do more labouring between the things they need to be here for. Suppose it depends what they quote us.

Ideally it would be done while DH is away but equally I need another bod around, mainly to keep the dogs calm and occupied while there's strangers everywhere and so I can look after the rest of the household duties!

Hubby reckons his new job could run on til 2025, he said the other day he might be able to retire then and get the kitchen finished and a panel on the bath :rotfl: cheeky !!!!!!!

EDIT: LIR I know, actually finishing something, crazy!

Looks like there's only a few dry hours this morning then more heavy rain...hmmmmmmmm, what to do......?

That's why I want to take a break. DW has been overworked since the GS arrived.

Also, I don't want the garden to slide so far downhill we'll need another year to rescue it. It would be so depressing to see the weeds taking over.

Builder tells us he has another building job as well as the posh table, so he 'will be gone a month.' Translate that, and it probably means 6 weeks, which wasn't what I was expecting, but never mind. :(

Electricians showed...late, and it's only the minions. One of them can think, though. ;)

And yes, we have to have an end date. It's when the money runs out, 'cos on a fixed and none too great income, "When it's gone, it's gone!"
