Hi all. I started work at 9 am and finished at 8 pm... long day but mission completed. I got home ,fed dogs, and collapsed in chair. Anti B's seem to be working thank goodness. And painkillers worked. When I spoke to man who commutes to scotland (one of my airport jobs) his description of weather up there was ''god doesn't like us at the moment'' !! He reckoned they've had everything thrown at them x 10 !! Poor choille and others.... right off to bed, another long day tomorow. Keep safe y'all0

Alf, that's a VERY long day with anti biotics and toothache.
Please take care.0 -
There were some lovely dogwoods among other things (Monty and Nigel!) on GW last Friday if anyone missed it, they were in the winter garden at Wisley.
There are a lot of completely unpruned dogwoods around here and I'm surprised how much I like the way they grow. I've always been taught to prune right back, like its the only way to grow them.
The coppiced ones look stunning too, but in a different way, they change the mood with their vertical movement and bright colour and are better en masse.
Then there's the woeful hacking of car park and roundabout plantings, achieving neither a pleasing shape or colour.
Interesting Dave that the sheep don't bother with dogwoods, I might try some in the fields between the willow. I think I've got enough snippets to make really good blocks of each colour thanks to my car park haul!0 -

The dogwood is still there, whereas small willow that size is nibbled right down. Many have layered themselves too.:D
A tree that sheep are supposed not to like is common alder. We'll see. It's usually only a few sheep that have a go at the bark on larger trees, especially at this time, when the new grass isn't really making its presence felt yet.
We should really have made the most of the weather yesterday by weeding the garden, which still shows signs of wanting to return to nettle and dock-infested scrub. However, I was on ceilings again, and when my neck gave up I had the joy of painting protector on the tile grout with a wee watercolour brush!
DW was washing-down all the polytunnel plastic we used as floor protection when the plasterers were in. We'll be reusing that in phase 2.
Finally ran our electrician to earth. He's up to his neck in work and not answering emails or his phone. He wasn't slow in cashing our cheque though!0 -
Bit of a puzzle. Two guys were killed when their car left the road at speed near here about 3 weeks ago. Beyond knowing that they were two guys in a Subaru, no further info has been reported. Odd, don't you think? My mind has worked overtime on this one.....:o
Do you recall last year a chap in our village had stashed away a large (100's) collection of guns (including Uzi's and AK47's) and explosives - well that wasn't reported for a couple of weeks - don't know why - we had a massive police presence - did for Suffolk Police overtime budget for the year. Sometimes stories are embargoed (possibly in the case you mention Dave to contact relatives) and then by the time the embargo is lifted its not considered newsworthy.
Hows you today alfie?
Mr BD took Old Dog back to vets today for a check up, and especially to check her leg fracture is healing OK. All going well - for her age anyway. :j:j:j
She is going to be on gabapentin long term. Cost £98 for a 100 from the vets.:eek::eek: Just ordered the repeat prescription online, £14.21 for 100 including postage. Spent some of the money I saved on a ramp so she can get in and out of the car more easily. Over the years she has been a very healthy dog, not even needed a dental, but she is making up for it now:
Previcox anti inflammatory for joint pain
Zantac liquid for upset tummy due to Previcox
Gabapentin pain killer
Protexin pro and pre biotic for upset tummy due to gabapentin
Propalin for mild urinary incontinence
Supplements:
B12 for anemia
Yumove for joints
Plaqueoff for fresh breath
Luckily we seem to get it all down her relatively easily. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Oh and Mr BD had poached eggs on toast for the first time today. He is converted!!!
I'd been craving poached eggs for a while so splashed out on a poacher so I can have nice round poached eggs on my toast.
ETA - on the minus side the chickens are declining to lay at all this week and we had to buy some eggs - nooooooooo :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Hi all. Another dry but cold dayl:D. Dependant on pills to survive the day but necesary.....:o the deer have been noshing away in the hay shed but mainly the loose/fallen stuff so don't mind. We are on the look out for a small flock of sheep. Something slightly unusual would be nice but I will probably end up with an unwanted/in need lot !!0

That's very kind, greenval. :T
I think ferretkeeper mentioned she'd found some prunings. I took cuttings of my red ones some time ago and I've just ordered some 'Midwinter Fire,' so with my green ones in the willow area needing some thinning, I'm fine for those.
Maybe someone else?
I hate throwing good cuttings away too! Cornus are animal-safe and they seem to be something the sheep aren't keen on, judging by the way my woolly monsters are avoiding them. I'm cutting the willow at present and they're eating the tops of that.
Fixing blackthorn springs to the apple trees stopped the little blighters gnawing those!
How do I get my cornus cuttings to take? I tried last year and none did anything. I only have the one, but I prune it low every year and its a glorious red. I fancy getting some of the green for another part of the garden but if I knew how to take the cuttings that would be great. Any advice gratefully accepted0 -
