Having a minor melt down with family issues. Blowing a hooley here so hope choille OK. Lots of family visiting tomorrow so. hope Forth Bridge OK - 30 mph limit today.
Off to Guernsey on Wednesday for a lot of TLC from my friend. Gardening gloves are packed.0 -
Hope things calm down soon azzaabazza. Here I've got a delicious month alone ( apart from weekends with fir, but he's away for a sat night of one of them!).
Which is great, it feels a long time since I had this independence! My ears are a bit blocked still, I wore them out on the phone yesterday and they hurt a bit too, and the backlight on my cell went yesterday.
, ( I cannot text with no backlight......I wonder how much that will cost to repair, I looked on youtube and it looked far too fiddly for me ) so the independence comes with the dizzy exhileration of truely feeling on my own for a bit, and it feels GREAT. E.g, yesterday when I fell ( quite usual for me ) in the field bringing the geese in, it was kinda cool knowing it was back to being just me. To rely on. I liked it. Luckily absolutely nothing hurt at all, I was just a bit muddy , but it felt really good.0 -
Speaking of geese, one of my boys bit my bum the other day as I bent down to grab an escaped goat baby. My fault, he was protecting his lady on her nest, but God it hurt!
I made this sign to go out the front for selling goose eggs, just finished yesterday, but they've been laying for a few weeks already so I've got a pile of eggs to empty and decorate!
I'm thinking of putting a bonnet on her for Easter! it's blackboard paint in the background so I can do that in chalk or I've got some of those clever marker pens somewhere if I'm feeling brave.
Oddly LIR I also feel kind of free again when DH goes back to work, you know where you are when its just you!
Well I wasn't expecting it to be so cold out today, might wait for it to warm up a bit before I do anything else out there!0 -
How did you guys manage to acquire your properties was it a similar situation?
Finding the right one is trickier than finding a 'normal' house. firstly because there are fewer of them, and then the land represents a whole new level of complexity. Add to that a dearth of landed property in many areas, and the recipe for a long search is complete.
We couldn't afford to buy what we wanted in the area around Bath where we used to live, so we focused on cheaper areas in West Wales and the Westcountry too.
Despite a preference for West Wales, such was the dearth of correctly priced smallholdings there following the recession, we plumped instead for this run-down agriculturally-tied place in Devon, which was a bit of a one-off. The owner needed out quickly and we were the only cash buyers she could find.
While we saw the potential in this property, much of that was to do with the land, outbuildings and position, so we're currently refurbishing the bungalow. It hasn't been seriously neglected, but the previous owners spent money on it in peculiar ways....I'll say no more! :rotfl:0 -

Agreed. :T
Our friend has just done something similar for our egg salesd, but we don't have enough eggs to use it.:o Regulars are taking all we have.
Bit of a puzzle. Two guys were killed when their car left the road at speed near here about 3 weeks ago. Beyond knowing that they were two guys in a Subaru, no further info has been reported. Odd, don't you think? My mind has worked overtime on this one.....:o0 -
Long time lurker here!
Did someone want Cornus cuttings. I'm about to prune mine and will have loads and I hate to just bin them.
PM me if you want some.0 -

That's very kind, greenval. :T
I think ferretkeeper mentioned she'd found some prunings. I took cuttings of my red ones some time ago and I've just ordered some 'Midwinter Fire,' so with my green ones in the willow area needing some thinning, I'm fine for those.
Maybe someone else?
I hate throwing good cuttings away too! Cornus are animal-safe and they seem to be something the sheep aren't keen on, judging by the way my woolly monsters are avoiding them. I'm cutting the willow at present and they're eating the tops of that.
Fixing blackthorn springs to the apple trees stopped the little blighters gnawing those!0 -
Darn, knew I had forgotten something.
Adds ' dogwood' to list.. Would have been lovely job today in gorgeous weather.
I have red ones which alone I thought were very chic? Now I'm quite tempted to add something like midwinter fire to the mix to brighten the clump up, but not sure.
I let mine grow only lightly pruned a few years for roadside cover but we've got better shielding now and colour is fading, so I have to be harsh this year for better colour next year.0
