Snowed in Brum this morning and snowed here this afternoon, but nothing came of it.
I drove down the M5 in brilliant sunshine all the way, till I passed the 'Devon' sign, when it hammered down. :rotfl:
Our builder is now hanging doors, so I've been able to close off the 3 rooms with open windows, as they're drying out from plastering. It's still cold in here, though!
DD1's house is toasty warm compared with this one.I lay in bed last night with feet outside the duvet.... and they were still warm. I even had to remove my long johns!!! :rotfl:
That's a great prize, CTC, but you can maybe do a swapsie.
I was speaking to Pete the other day, and he told me that he always 'buys' his beef from our plumber, mainly by swapping pork with him. I was puzzled as Pete keeps beef cattle, but he explained that he only sells them as finished livestock, so he never gets any meat himself.
I didn't know the plumber was also a farmer, like the plasterer, Mr Rod. Pete himself, is an arborist in his other life, but he's also a pretty competent agricultural engineer and he holds a HGV licence too. No one just does 'farming.'0 -
we part paid with a large leg of pork, to the guy we use to cut down very large trees, or trees too awkward to cut down, that might damage neighbours fences etc.. so a bit of bartering is good, just wish we could do it al the time, and use full payment too lol..
I was thinking of giving the pork to my mother, she will not eat our pork, as she knows our pigs... but yet she will still buy pork in the butchers .. .
Davesnave, it just shows and confirms, that regardless of what size smallholding/farm you got, you cant make a proper wage out of it, I have never been under any illusion that both of us could play around on the ranch and make a living for the both of us.. we will be lucky to get a bit of pin money.. and at a push a little part time wage... lolWork to live= not live to work0 -
Just got the hens out, fed and watered before the most amazingly dark sky descended and we went from bright sunshine to torrential rain in 30 seconds.
And we are in one of the less wet areas today!
Don't like the look of things up your way, choille! :eek:0 -
White out here.
Mr Choille was supposed to go for a blood letting but can't get out so that'll be postponed for a while.
I couldn't get a wage out of my croft, but I was too late to get into various schemes, so I do it - the sheep coz I like them......too much really.
My poorly sheep has really bucked up so that is good news. He's in the old lamb pen, but with the gate open so he's wandering about in his element - at least there's not as much mud about where he is now.
Glad we got the hay back fine. Didn't get in the door until 7pm so I was jiggered with all the heaving this & that & not about at the crack this morning, but must list some stuff on the bay as it's FL until midnight.
Pheobe - boundaries are a bone of contention, but worse with crofts as they aren't mapped as such, just described - weird system.0 -
Chilly here today, with hail too. Good news re your poorly sheep choille
Keep us up to date with your garden discovery mission phoebe It'll be interesting to hear what comes up in spring.
Browsing the green living forum and someone linked to this baked pototo pod - anyone tried one? Very tempted.

Gorgeous sunny day here - got a fair bit more done in the garden and managed to find a lovely forest walk for the dogs, although it's a short drive away.......

Lots going on here. The electricians came (by arrangement) at 7am, got the power and light sorted in the plastered end of the house and were gone again by 8.30am. They'll be back on Friday to switch on the 3rd bedroom.
Meanwhile, the skirtings, architraves and coving are arriving any minute........:)
I'm stilll digging holes!0 -
Beautiful sunny day here in contrast to the snow, sleet and driving rain we had yesterday! Awful driving conditions too and from Fife.
Keep well everyone!0
