Thanks LIR - I couldn't afford owt posh - the island is posh & a real wow - well for me being trailer trash it is.

It's a sort of pinky brown & grey marble - the walls are a sort of lilac grey & the cabinets going down one wall will be light flat grey. I've painted some unit doors I got off Gumtree - they were new in the box I may add. Just pretend wood which I didn't like.

Phoebe I don't want wood as I hate the black that you can get round the sink.

Sorry to hear of your bump - hope it goes well. You've been busy.

The wind is really wild here now - been out hacking up some brambles to get a bit of fresh as it's cabin fever weather.

NoO - I'm having metro tiles on the wall, so don't want the tops that.

I think it'll be okay having laminate in plain-ish colour. OH wants a black with flecks of mica stuff it shows different colours, but I think it's too bling.

Plasterer was supposed to be here to finish off this week, but he's headed off home early coz of weather so that is a begger. It's just all gone slide.

Thanks for your thoughts on worktops - I will have a head scratch & see if I can see owt on-line.

All quiet on the gardening front with me...however, looks like social services have now arranged the care for parents so am expecting that to commence Monday and I can return to office. At least with laptop and video conferencing, I've not been left totally out the loop this last week. Fortunately there's a decent Travelodge 5 mins from theirs, so I've not been travelling too much.

Today family lawyer has done the paperwork to allow me to take PoA for mum, while she's able to give informed consent.

I'm really looking forward to getting back to pottering in my garden. If this forecast hot weather does make it as far as Scotland, I'm expecting the bulbs I planted in the 'spring' garden to get a boost.

As it happens...we put a worktop in the utility today. :D It was that one I went to H*wd*ns for last week, only to find it damaged.

"We'll have one for you tomorrow."
"That's no good, I'm in Birmingham!"
She just mouthed "Birmingham....." and looked stunned. I might as well have said "Outer Mongolia.":rotfl:

Anyway, no word on Monday Tuesday or Wednesday, but on Thursday the H*wd*ns rep called here to find out where my friend's former house might be.(You have to go through a field. :D) Friend has just moved out and there are major works afoot there - diggers and all sorts.

I said, "Get me my worktop and I'll tell you!" :p

He did. Lorry arrived late afternoon. Worktop was fine, but no edge strip.:(

He was back today with the edging strip. Tried to sell us a kitchen, but with service hiccups like that over one worktop, just think what fun they could have with a whole kitchen! :rotfl:

My pennyworth: the worktop, whatever it is, should contrast with the fronts and not swear at the floor. I thought that would be easy, but following that, whilst also discounting horrible ones, made the selection process pretty straightforward. :D

Yup, no wood near sinks for me either!

Dave - that's a funny way to get your work top =- not good service for you.

They do have good reputation for quality, but I did enquire about some kitchen stuff & they now harass me on a regular basis.

Lovely that a malamute won Working dog class & what a beauty he is.

Urgh, this morning kiwi flushed a rat out of the feed room but didn't catch it. But dog dog did, then it bit her in the face and she dropped it. Then resulted mad tearing around by both of them in the feed room to try and kill the rat. Flushing out another as they went. :(

Dog dog's nose took twenty minutes to stop bleeding,

Been quiet on here this week. Either not much happening or you are all mega busy :D

I've been resting up following the meeting I had on the NHS User Group on the 24th Feb which wiped me out worse than usual. I suspect it's partly my 'age' - my body temperature disregulation is much worse atm, more extremes of hot and cold so I don't have a clue what the ambient temperature is much of the time :o A friend has ordered some sage tablets for me to see if they help.

Rather chilly here this morning at 6 degrees despite those bloomin' weather forecasters getting my hopes up and promising 14 degrees here in the east.

I've got wood worktops round the sink. It does take more work than laminate etc, but you can keep them nice if you oil regularly and don't let water stand on them. The wood does look lovely, now the oil is building up it glows, but I can understand that lots of people don't like the faffing around with oiling etc.

My task this weekend, should I choose to accept it, is to order some seeds from T&M, I've saved up some Tesco vouchers and T&M have 20% off too. And Mr BD's task (although he is yet to be informed) will be to put up the plastic greenhouse so I can get the seeds going.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

    morning all,

went to market yesterday with 2 porkers. boars. didn't get much for them, £30 and £40, but prices on the whole were on the floor, on reflection maybe we should have waited until next month, so prices might have been higher because of easter

got a litter due soon, from the mother we had problems with last time, but she turned out to be such a great mum, after she settled down and she started producing milk..

small poultry/crap auction is on today, so might take a trip there, will see what hubby says when he gets up.

its a bit cold and grey out there this morning, fingers crossed it will brighten up later, and we will have the warm weather they forcasted.

    HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY CHOILLE...

fingers crossed the weather will soon change up your way too
