I'm ready to start seed shopping :j only getting a couple of things this year. I miss Alan Romans as the seeds were cheap yet good. Does anyone know if lidl/aldi have kale or chard seeds?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Lidl have Swiss chard lucellus which is the best IMO as it is the only one that kept going in both winters in 2010. And it is the most tender of the varieties as well.
Currently 29p (or 5 packets for £1 if you want some other stuff) Do not think they had kale.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
hi all... bluddy chilly here but stayed dry... sun peeped out and then pi**ed off
re my lounge, i have a large pelmet in a beaut william morris material with same dark red chord trim and friend suggested i put that above patio doors/ windows and try and get matching wall paper for the chimney wall

Thank you, there are a couple of things that I would like to get but I have decided not to grow too much this year.
Every year I have grand plans that fall flat on their face leaving me feeling disheartenedso I am thinking small this year with the hope it is all a great sucess :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Me too, although I have to do a market stall once a month, but that will be perennials which more or less grow themselves.
Wasn't terribly nice here today, but I got Mr Dog's second eucalyptus in and did a bit of hedge laying, after which I was really warm.
The electricians were back to finish first fix on the bulk of the house. The moggs are now so used to unknown men with angle grinders, chasing out the walls, they didn't bat an eyelid when cabling was done in the room next to 'theirs.' :rotfl:0 -

Well, that's realism for you! :rotfl:
When my BiL started his barn conversion, he and his son rented a small cottage in town. But, even then, that was £500 per month they had to find.
BiL bought a caravan, put it on the building site and installed son in it. He then went to live with his partner, so that was £500/month+ saved.0 -
Morning all.
Decorator here for the last day today and the tiler is coming to replace the broken tiles on the hearth. Then I will have the house to myself again :j:j:j:j
The decorating is the last of the time consuming jobs. Still have to sort the flooring but that will be days rather than weeks.
Poor old dog is having a bit of a rough time. I noticed that she was walking a bit differently on one of her back legs, she was turning her foot out a little. She didn't appear to be in pain (other than her usual stiffness) but thought I'd better get it checked so sent her and Mr BD to the vets.
Very upset to find out that she had fractured one of the 4 bones in her lower leg. The vet thought she did it about 10 days ago as he could feel the callous. The other 3 bones are stabilising the fracture. We have racked our brains and can't think how and when she did the injury, there hasn't been any limping or yelping in pain. I spoke to a friend who works as a nurse at the vets and she said to think of old dog as a little old lady possibly prone to fractures after very little trauma.
Vet offered an x-ray, but there is no point as the treatment is the same and it is not worth the risk for such an old dog. She is already on strong painkillers and anti inflammatories for her other health conditions which will have made the fracture much more comfortable.
Feel awful for missing it when it happened, but old dog is a dreadful wuss so if it had been painful she would have let me know. Three cheers for whoever invented gabapentin, certainly has helped an old dog feel much more comfortable in her twilight. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Oh, don't feel bad BD, animals are designed to hide pain and weakness, but I wish they'd realise they don't need to hide things from us humans!
Twice now I've been caught out with my old dogs, who first showed any sign of illness just a day or two before they died of an aggressive cancer, with inoperable damage. In hindsight I could say they had been a little quieter than usual but that was all.
My oldest dog is kind of stable, no better no worse, maybe getting used to losing a bit of sight and hearing. I wondered if a bit of dementia might be creeping in, but I think I can attribute his strange behaviour to not seeing and hearing so well.
A couple of weeks ago he kept wanting to go out for a pee but would just stand looking back at the door, then bark to be let in. By the third of fourth time I was getting a bit frustrated but then he went and did the longest pee I've ever seen! Was he forgetting why he wanted out? are signals not making it round his brain? Was he waiting for me to come outside with him?
Better dash he's shouting for me again!0 -
