Hi guys
Well, it's been an ok day here, weather-wise - chilly and quite overcast but with some sunshine too - perfect for me to get out on the balcony and prune back the various triffids that threatened to consume the middle section of our roofThe balcony is going to require new timber railings then, with the addition of a rattan sofa and table it'll be the perfect place to sit on a Summer's evening with a large G&T
:D:D
After all our hard physical graft over the past seven years restoring our last two houses and their gardens, my plan (just need to get DH on board, lol!) is to get a few jobs finished on this place before Summer so that we can actually take some time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labours......maybe take our first holiday in nine years too
Alfie - sounds as though you're making great progress and the huge rug sounds fab! I love rugs - we have several including a few Liberty ones - but atm most are sitting atop the PO's fitted carpets which will be coming up as soon as the weather improves.....
Btw, can anyone please confirm whether buying Bluebells *in the green* is advisable? TIA

Hello
Well it is that time of year again when I am about to start planning the garden for the spring/summer/autumn.
Tonight I am going to drag out the seed tin and the books and, decide what I am growing and where it is going. Then I will create my annual plan with bright colours and big ideas.
The shade bed looked good last year so I think it will only need a couple of things added however the sunny bed was a bit of a disaster and a fence landing on what was left during the storms has done it no favours so back to the drawing board for that againTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
OH is waiting to see a consultant about his ankles as he's getting almost unable to walk without being in agony. This has happened steadily over the past year, but has got to the point that he can hardly go out on sites especially if it slopes. He really is hobbling & he wakes up when he moves in bed.
And of course it is nice and flat around your area.
Hope they can do something for him.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Had to make some basic decisions on this as a load of muck was delivered earlier than expected; and to get it off the public path it needed dumping where it was going to be wanted. So I know where the maize and tatties are going for a start. It is Potato Day this weekend, so need to restrain myself.
Also decided to put the greenhouse up somewhere other than where I had intended initially, flatter ground, less likeihood of damage or shading by plants and it leaves the largest space on the plot intact.
Hope all the snufflies are feeling better; finally feel OK after the viral thing and better for getting out and doing stuff on the plot and in the garden, although the permafrost got in the way of some plans. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Maybe we had the best of the weather today, as we hit double figures by lunchtime.
In fact I'm willing to bet the yard hit 15c. It really felt as if spring had sprung, but of course it hasn't.
Still, no more frosts for the foreseeable, which is good when you still have holes in your ceilings and an empty roof void.
We have the hallway and utility room tiled now, but tomorrow it's batten down the dust sheets as the electricians return.....In their absence I decided to add another socket in the utility, which I hope won't mess things up too much. Anyway I've channelled out the wall and stuck a metal box in for them.....they can't get many customers who'll do that for them! :rotfl:
Picked up the utility room units from Howden's other not terribly nearby branch. Saw they were advertising their food give-away, but it was at a silly time of 8 -10am. No matter, their units beat the other branch on price. It takes more than a Scotch egg to win me over...:p
Everyone in Brum continues to mend, so hopefully we'll soon be back to normal, whatever that is.
Western Power are replacing lines and poles in the area again on Wednesday, so there will be no leccy from 8-5pm. That's what they say, but last time we were still in the dark at 21.30.0 -
OK FOLKS , THIS IS WHAT IVE TRIED SO FAR. THE BEFORE AND AFTER.. bearing in mind ive tried 4 sets of curtains....so far ! they are actually a very dark red

Great news Dave!
I am sitting surrounded by seeds trying to decide what to keep and what to bin. Most seeds have a long shelf life I think yet not all? There must be a list somewhere, I'm off to Google!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Evening! Looks like everyone's been busy busy busy! I have been too, it must be the brighter weather but I feel like I've done loads this past week.
It was positively scorchio here today, I was working on some furniture out the front of the house around lunchtime and it was roasting. Clear blue skies, a pair of red kites circling round, it was lovely!
I've been working on the bathrooms...upstairs is nearly there, the plumber has been, he took out the bathroom last Wednesday, left me to finish decorating Thursday, then came back Friday to start putting back, and finished off today. Everything is plumbed in, all that's left to do is a bath panel, a bit of boxing in and a couple of mirrors, but I've only just ordered all those bits, then he's back Thursday to fit them.
Downstairs loo is still a bombsite! After the initial demo work I left it alone while it was my only bathroom but today I got the plumber to whip the sink off the wall and I finished drilling off all the old tiles and plaster tonight. Yuk!
I've got a cunning plan to replace the crappy cloakroom sized basin and random toilet in there, it involves a couple of ebay purchases and the second hand cupboard I was working on today. I'm going for an industrial vintage look, inspired by the bare brick, it's coming together but I'm not 100% there yet.
FWIW I also like the swan taps, was trying to convince myself to have them in our main bathroom, but in the end went more modern. I didn't mind that black and gold bathroom either, like some have said, good to stand out from the crowd. This house will be pretty unique by the time finished with it, hubby might need some convincing though!
Alfie, I have a room painted in that gold-yellow colour and it's lovely. Now you've put that ginormous rug down - how did you move it?! - and the dark curtains do you think you'll have a go at some paint?
Rummer, nice to see you back! my thoughts will be focused on the garden soon too, I'm grateful for the cold weather that's bought me some time, I haven't planned anything!
One thing I sometimes do with dubious/old seeds is try a pinch on a bit of wet kitchen paper, to see if it germinates.
Well I do hope everyone is keeping warm and well, got my leccy blanket on tonight, the heat soothes my aches and pains!0 -
