  • Phoebe have you gone for a tap like that gold swan one on the Have a Look at This thread????:eek::eek::eek:
For those of you who don't partake of the Housing board - picture 12 is what I was thinking of :rotfl:https://www.aspc.co.uk/search/property/325702/29-North-Silver-Street/Aberdeen/

    And the thread
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3403965

The 'have a look at this' thread is really worth a browse when you feel that your renovations aren't going anywhere - there have been some gems on there, one of my favourites was the house with the fish pond in the living room - remember that one phoebe?

OMG no, BD, that was horrific wasn't it? We've opted for something slightly more subtle than that, lol :rotfl:......Although, saying that I have just also bought a gold tap (rather more tasteful IMHO than the swan) for one of the cloakrooms ;)

Ooh, I do remember that one, yes.....there have certainly been some corkers over the years - think they're becoming thinner on the ground now though and as Dave points out, it takes up waaaay too much valuable time scouring RM for candidates ;):D

Do hope Mr BD is ok (and {{hugs}} to everyone else here that's suffering atm) and that all the pantos are a huge success when they hit the stage :T

Alfie - love the saffron idea suggested by LIR for your room - we just got F&B India Yellow for one of the bedrooms here. I haven't started that room yet, but the sample looks fab. I think something similar would look very rich and set off your treasures beautifully.....and look good throughout the year too! For curtains I've got some lovely sludgy olive linen fabric that I got from an interiors sale in Wilton last year - a huge remnant that cost £5 :D

We've been lucky with finds lately - found some amazing chunky curtain poles with minaret finials and at a bargain price too.....went to collect a couple and the guy had loads more in his garage from when he downsized from his big house in Knightsbridge ;)

    I've been Money Tipped!
I like swan taps. I really hate that people's homes are so bland now and while the swan taps might be not my taste I love going into houses where people dare to choose something other than bland chrome. I hated having to chose chrome for our bathroom out of lack of time, choice and money.

While I enjoy the giggle of the have a look at this thread I actually admire the spirit of a lot of the homes, people who have homes that really are homes, not investments. People much like lots of us, with a different dream, living in environments that might not be normal to everyone but have been what has made THEM happy.

Long live eccentrics, and down with those who would have us all be bland for fear of not fitting in with what the great British public deem fitting.

After ages (about a year and a half) I finally made a blog post yesterday, and it's what I'd have posted here, so I'm copying it here. After all, First Bumble Bee of the year is a special day! :j Should have posted it last night, but was too knackered post toothy stuff. :o;)

Today's post is about Wolf Hall, so don't bother looking at that unless you're interested. Any of you watching?

    =====>>>

Today has been interesting. After my rather late bath I finally got dressed and just as was about to come downstairs I looked out of the bedroom window to the River Mersey, and saw what I think is the biggest ship I have seen from here. Bound for Eastham, the Maracas Bay, 175 metres long! A chemical/oil products tanker. She was riding very high in the water, and had a tug boat at her stern. Later to be followed by Leander, at a mere 145 metres, but similar capabilities and headed for Stanlow. I didn't get to see Leander though, as was rushing to be ready for my Dental Hygienist appointment.

After having my teeth thoroughly cleaned and rattled in my skull I sat out in the front porch continuing my re-reading of "Wolf Hall". A must re-read since we're enjoying the BBC2 adaptation so much. It was surprisingly warm in the sunshine, only had a thin jacket on. Was delighted to see my first bumble bee of the year briefly. So briefly I couldn't tell what kind it was, but it wasn't one of those huge queens you often see in springtime. Sort of beige-ish, and about standard medium bumble bee size. But a promise of Spring!

Now I have freezing feet, as I sat out a bit too long and I'm wearing my posh shoes (have to look respectable when go to the dental practice) and not my sheepskin boots. The sky is now pearly and beautiful, might grab my boots and go out to sit for a bit longer to watch the colour changes as the daytime ends.

It was pretty much 4c all day here, but the wind abated, so we ventured into the hen orchard to prune a few apple trees. Only got 5 done, as it was more than just pruning. Two trees have fallen over in our light soil, but they are still producing well, so it was a matter of balancing them to their new orientation.

All the smaller branches made a satisfying bonfire, so it was a happy afternoon away from building. :)

Then we heard that DD and Sam had been discharged, but DD's husband had meanwhile become very sick with some bug, while DD herself wasn't too good either, still being under outpatient care with a different hospital. :(

Sooooo....DW decided at 6pm that she should nip up to Brum!

She's there now until things settle. Sam (GS) is OK, but on antibiotics which give tummy pains as a side effect, so I doubt if there will be much rest for her tonight!

In other news, we finally have a firm date for the plumber/heating guy, so the loft will be sorted by the time the insulation people return.:D While they will all be too late for this winter, there's no doubting the difference we shall feel next autumn. :)

The full switch-over to a new system won't happen till around mid-summer.

I guess something causes kidney stones, choille, but I can't remember what, and I don't think it's easy avoiding them if you're prone. They make you feel very unwell, but once they pass or dissolve, recovery is quick, so I've that to be grateful for.

We had a visit from people of a similar age to me yesterday, and listening to the conversation, which soon turned to medical news about mutual friends, it struck me how lucky I've been so far. :j

Maggie - I do have a lovely very ancient book on bees with lovely coloured plates somewhere but it's been packed up for years. I really love bees. Pretty early. I have seen a couple of huge wasps that looked very dopey as if they'd emerged far too early.
I will be getting my gums deep cleaned on my birthday next month - wot a freaking treat that will be........

Dave - I hope everyone gets well really fast - what a shame.

I must prune my crab apples - loads of dead wood & really straggly - lovely silhouette against the evening sky - they are in the old vertical mill ruin at the back of the caravan so I look out at them when typing. I love the blossom it will move with bees come spring & also a tree creeper seems to be there often, or is it a wren? It seems to find bugs on its bark.

The baby/kids of the wild goats are popping out all over the place. Like wee teddies so they are. Someone offered to give me a recipe for currying them, but I politely declined, it would be like eating my own..I'm just not that hungry yet.

Yes, that's the one thing I dislike about Panto, which is that almost 30 of us are squashed together in a small room for many, many hours, so the chances of catching one of the numerous bugs around must rise by hundreds of %

During the winter, I stay away from hospitals, doctors' surgeries and anywhere similar, if I possibly can.
