Beautiful cats Alfie. I had a grey cat & she lived to a ripe old age. Lovely colour.

Met a Malamute in Inverness. They have dog sleding this weekend at Aviemore so there's a huge meet up there. This was the most beautiful female, just so proud & totally fabulous. I would really love to get one.

    Funny Dave with the wall.

CTC - I have rogusa rose - pink & white ones & they are dead easy to go. I found mine down the road & just pulled out some suckers & jabbed them in & slapped some dung on & way hay. They smell wonderful in the evening when they are out.

Rent day at the lottie, got our seed spuds - Maris Bard, Kestrel and Desiree. Bitter cold with a nasty wind, so we didn't hang around to weed or tidy. Definitely need to do some tidying up, and the "pond" is full of leaves, so will have to try clear them out soon. Onions and garlic sprouting, but no sign of the shallots yet. Also have a box full of onions shallots and garlic sitting in the kitchen, they'll go in the back garden here. I over-ordered as didn't realise how many there were in my original order. :o
  • Oh shame, poor puss cat! Aren't they so put out when you change things.

We've got a bright mild day here too, I should be in the garden not on the sofa cuddling cats :o I've got big plans to attack the garden when DH is next home on leave, in a few weeks time.

I noticed recently how exposed we are, walking the dog back down the hill to ours on the opp side of the road you can see right in, almost into the garden despite a 6' fence! So I've been looking for evergreen hedging to go round the perimeter, and I want it mega fast growing. I take it you don't need PP for a tall hedge?!

Conifers do well locally but I don't really want leylandii, it's too unforgiving if you leave it go, but Dave what do you think about Thuja plicata? The growers/sellers say it puts on 2-3 ft per year, and can be cut into and re grows. My other choice is laurel...

And I've yet to get the willow cut and planted, need to get skates on.

My two penneth on the NHS.... I agree with a lot of what's been said.

I hate smoking, my entire family smokes, I wish they'd done it outside while I was growing up and I welcomed the indoor ban. but it's fairly widely accepted that the tax revenue more than covers the associated health bills, not sure if booze is the same. Government are careful not to put prices too high, they rely on that income, but they are going through the motions with various bans etc. to appease the campaigners and go with health warnings.

The thing they need to sort out is sugar, Modified fat and the other carp in processed foods that makes people so unhealthy. Have you tried avoiding added sugar? It's a nightmare, it's in everything because food manufacturers know it's addictive and you'll keep coming back. That's what should be legislated against, people messing with our food. Obesity is the new cancer, the NHS cannot deal with the fallout.

Last week a friend was told she'd be waiting about 2 years to have kidney stones removed, 6 months wait for a scan, even though an xray has already confirmed them, then 18 months wait for the op. She could have kidney failure by then, so she'd need more expensive treatment, would have to Stop working and claim benefits...talk about short sighted

Not sure how to fix it, though I'd be prepared to pay for prescriptions, and contribute to treatment, like the dentist I suppose - It's not much but it's something and those who can't afford it don't have to pay anyway. As for salaries, them that get the most usually do least to earn it, but then that's the way of the world sadly.

I love the way everyone is so helpful to each other on this thread, swapping things, offering help and support. Nothing much happening with me. I've got lots of plans for the gardn and think I know how I want it to look but I have no money to do it and my plant knowledge needs to be much better. I'm looking fir a nice climbing rose to go over a pergola that is South-west facing but has large connifer hedges either side so some shade. I would like it scented and pinks or white would be the colour of choice, does anyone have any recommendations? Lir I know you love roses and have great knowledge of them?
I'm doing the big bird watch later, be my luck none of them will visit lol

I think the peter Beales rose selector tool is pretty fabulous.

If you aren't looking for old fashioned I have a Claire Austen growing in shade and she's fabulous, not particularly tall, so you might want her one side and some thing else the other side, Her scent is very pleasant and strong, but not old rosy, I adore it though. It smells very very clean, a bit like the scent the bottle and call 'clean linen' but also lemony and a bit of tea rose. She's very hard working, repeating, healthy and flowers well.

You could try her with something pink or an older white that's less abundant in its flower?
