Rosa Rugosa - was going to suggest pruning the local supermarket car park but these look cheap enough http://www.jparkers.co.uk/shrubs/hedging-plants?gclid=COuB_PPQqsMCFcvJtAodCQYA9A

    Dog rose http://www.wildlifetrusts.org/species/dog-rose

Burnet rose http://www.davidaustinroses.co.uk/english/Showrose.asp?Showr=240 has black hips

Perhaps add fruhlingsgold or Canary Bird/

Rosa rugosa is a tough shrub rose that grows, unchecked, to about 6' and it can form quite a thick, upright hedge, covered in large haws in autumn. It's not the dog rose.

Colour is mostly cerise pink, but there's a white too. Buy them from Buckingham Nurseries, or wait until I can send you some of Horse Woman's! :rotfl:

The passageway door was bricked-up on Monday, causing the cats more confusion. They went to sleep and the door had become a wall by the time they woke up! :rotfl:

I love the way everyone is so helpful to each other on this thread, swapping things, offering help and support. Nothing much happening with me. I've got lots of plans for the gardn and think I know how I want it to look but I have no money to do it and my plant knowledge needs to be much better. I'm looking fir a nice climbing rose to go over a pergola that is South-west facing but has large connifer hedges either side so some shade. I would like it scented and pinks or white would be the colour of choice, does anyone have any recommendations? Lir I know you love roses and have great knowledge of them?
I'm doing the big bird watch later, be my luck none of them will visit lol

I'm fine, still using those overalls you sent me. Look like a proper farmer I do! :D Before them, the only dungarees I had were 'designer style,' picked up in a Gap sale! :rotfl:

Horse Woman won't mind at all. She has them all along her track and they travel a bit. You might have to wait a week or two till things calm down here, as I'm not even doing my own plants or seed orders at present.

Roses can go in any time up to April, no problem.
  • thanks..Davesnave... gap dungarees lol.. 'posh' or what..

i need to sort out some sort of work clothes again, as i just used the same joggers and hoody for work and up the ranch.. so i am constantly washing, and wearing them.. same as my walking boots, wear them in work, and up the ranch, infact i wear these clothes shopping too..lol..

think i might see if i can find some army trs in my size, as they are brilliant, except when the piggles grab the bottom of them and try and pull and play...

I bet you cant wait until all the main building work is done, has Mrs D decided on any colour schemes yet for the rooms in the house??

think ours is going to be a mix, match of everything lol..
