Went through more detailed plans with our electricians today. They seem confident they'll have most of their wiring in place before the insulation people get here in exactly 3 weeks time. :jThat can't be installed too soon if we have more 'normal' winter weather, but looking ahead, it seems we're back to a milder air flow by Wednesday.

The electricians have helped us choose heating guys too. Not that they bad mouth anyone; they just say nothing at all when some names are mentioned!:rotfl:

After much deliberation, we've decided to go with an oil-fired boiler, supplemented by a wood burner and PV panels on the roof. Yes, we could get about £14k back if we went pellet, but over 7 years, and we'd need to pay it out first! Meanwhile, if we had to sell, it would be paid to someone else. Selling, say for health reasons, would be tough enough without that too! :(

    I've been Money Tipped!
Been cold and icey all day here. The surfaces stayed icey and dog dog took a slide and tumble in the yard but is fine ( thank good ness).

I wanted to go out but fir decided the roads were too icey to make it fun so we've been stripping the stair case paint. Horrid job.

    Are you kidding? :D

We're thrilled we did it, we've just been lazily about stripping the paint. Under the white and brown there is that tan colour that used to get slapped about often.

Time has a nasty habit of doing that.

We didn't think it would take us almost 5 years to get started on the house itself! :rotfl:

I must've missed that tan period of history, lir. You're right, strip back any house paintwork and it's lurking there! Here it's even on the radiators, somewhere under the orange, dark blue and deep red....

I've only ever seen it under other layers of paint too. :D
  • morning all,

    another frosty morning...and very grey...

oh well not long for spring ( hopefully)
Work to live= not live to work
  • Outside tap has frozen

Mice have eaten the Vermx in the shed

Birds very hungry and go through a feeder of suet pellets in a few hours

Chickens not impressed by the cold weather, but at least they have feathers (which is more than can be said this time last year!) and they enjoyed the macaroni cheese that I saved them from last night's tea :D

Think the frost has finally got the begonias which were still flowering in a sheltered bed

    Keep warm all
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
