So, a plate showing as registered to a Honda motorbike, H982 FKL, just happens to be on his Porsche in the Falkland's. That's his Christmas special ended early.

There is definitely something fishy going on - when I checked the number it came up at first as a 1991 VW Polo.
Then I checked another source and found it was the Porsche 928 all the fuss is about.
Looks like the number was very recently swapped about.0 -

when i first saw it in the paper i just skim read the article and thought that it was a big fuss about nothing
when i saw it on the news and i saw it as H982 FKL it was no coincidence it was done deliberately, and they deserve to be run out of town and they are lucky they got away as light as they did0 -
Has sun reader taken over the forum? How does H982 turn into 1982? How does the rest of the plate remotely relate to anything most South Americans would register as anything to do with The Malvinas?
More excellent, free promotion by TG, the rest really should have a lie down in a quiet corner.0 -
Maybe things are different in Argentina, and FKL is an accepted swear word/abbreviation.
I saw it on the News and needed the careful explanation to understand what they were on about.
Agreed it would have been deliberate though.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

There are lots of things to get upset about, and this isn't one of them.
H982 FKL spells '1982 Falklands' in the same way that S44 MTH spells 'Samantha', i.e. not at all.
(If the letters were MAL or MLV or MVS I could sort of understand, being that the fuss is in Argentina where they don't recognise the Falklands name at all.)
Anyway, leave Clarkson alone, he makes me laugh. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
Two things are pretty obvious to anybody with half a brain:
this isnt a coincidence
and
why it's caused uproar
Its clearly goading the argentinians to try get some good footage. Back fired massively0 -
Brilliant bit of free promotion- well done boys!0
