I like animals in general (and I've even met a few cats I liked) but the day I grabbed a double handful of yesterday's Whiskas while doing the autumn tidy up was the day I declared zero tolerance for cats in my garden. Water and tin cans thrown in the direction of, but not at, the intruders have worked where electronic devices, cat silhouettes etc failed.

And this is the whole point of the thread really, it's not cats that are disliked, well only by bird lovers and there are more of those than cat owners, The hate factor is cat excrement.

You own a dog by law you have to pick it up, but the cat does what it needs to do anywhere and the only person in a position to pick it up is the garden owner, provided he spots it before his dog or the kids roll in it.

A comment earlier:, "get a dog to keep the cats out", not likely I don't like handling any carp.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

  • I think the point is this.

Most people including gardeners such as myself like cats. But don't like the fouling. What can be done, I don't know.

Is it fair to keep a cat indoors for its life-I would say probably not. Their mess can be a hazard in pregnancy but having said that if your dog is a bit on the loose side then its difficult to completely pick up. So their is a potential for harm there. I'm trying not to be one sided.

One thing I think most posters would agree on is that there is far too many cats and dogs around. The animal welfare organisations would vouch for that.

I love cats and have 4 of my own plus two cats that are resident in the greenhouse out. A female cat appeared in our garden with for kittens, the mother stayed a week or so, then disappeared. Possibly a fox. We continued to feed all 4, costing us a fortune. Rang round all the charities and not one would take them. We tamed 2 which are now housecats and the other stayed around. We feed them everyday and will continue to as they hiss and spit at people apart from OH who feeds them. They sleep in the greenhouse with all the comforts of home growing fat as butter and enjoying life.
I wish cat owners would get their cats" done," fewer cats in the family way and better for the she cat health wise. Who wants to be up the duff all the time.
As no one wants the cat we have paid over £300 +to get them done and for a hernia op for one of them.
Wood we do it again YES.

the precise reason I keep my beautiful cats indoors is because of the psychos on this thread and people like them who live near me who entertain thoughts of poisoning cats just because a cat goes in their garden, which is psychotic, shooing away, yes, thowing water, yes, poisoning? vile, sub human and disgusting. There are enough psychotic angry self serving people around who think this way - and it's abnormal - only nutters harm animals for ANY reason. then you get the people defending their foul behaviour by asking stupid irrelevant counter questions to take the spotlight off their mental thought processes like "do you think a humans life is more important"

tell you what I think, cruelty to humans and animals either/or is typical of a psychopathic personality disorder

I seriously don't think you understood my point. The only reason I wanted to GET RID OF CATS was the constant pooing in my garden.
When you work weekdays - the cats are smart not to turn up on weekends, so waiting to catch them or using water pistol is out of question.
So, if some other cat craps in your garden - what would be your plan. Try to be helpful mate!

Some lovely private little vendettas going on here

But, aside from that, put cats on licence, Oh wait a minute, they don't do that with dogs anymore. They have to be chipped.

Stay with me, any dog caught without it's "identity tag chip" is off to the pound, cats????

  • Oh no. Just discovered next doors cat prowling in my garden towards my new mini greenhouse. I chased it off but I suppose it will be only a matter of time before it claws it.
