How do you cope with the guilt of being in debt?

When I was deep in my debts I often felt like this, until I came across some of the best advice around, so no longer did I sit in bed awake worrying...normdeplume wrote: »I am an irregular poster, but a regular reader here. I wondered how people coped emotionally when faced with debt. Right now, I am regularly waking up at 3.30-4am and my heart feels ready to burst. And the loneliness of debt is hard to handle too even when you're with friends. Has anyone ever felt the same?"If you can't sleep, then get up and do something instead of lying there worrying. It's the worry that gets you, not the lack of sleep."

Seriously, has the worry of your debts made anyone ill, because at the moment i'm so stressed out and worried, that i'm thinking of going to the doctors for prozac! I can't be the only one out there, but i really feel alone at the moment0

Yes,
I was put on several types of antidepressant, because of the stress/ depression caused by debt and other RL issues. The horrible thing about depressive disorders is that no-one can see them, there's no obvious physical symptom, and until you actually breakdown for no apparent reason, people (well in my case my employers, and others) wouldn't recognise an issue...
.. Get help, get counselling if you're upto it, but be perpared to wait, and get better, once your mind set is back to "normal" (!!!!!! is normal?!), your life gets a little easier.

Yes, your gp will be able to refer you, but you may need to press for it, and it may not be for you. It was pretty harrowing for me.
Interim measures whilst you wait for the referral:
1. Don't drink alcohol (depending on the Antidepressant, this may or may not still be possible anyway) its ultimately a depressant, and doesn't do your pocket/ body any good.
2. Sounds daft, but eat 2 banana's each day, they contain seratonin, the chemical that is lacking in your brain that causes depression. But don't eat too many, as it will overcompensate for the lack of the chemical and your brain will eventually start to stop producing it of its own accord.
3. Sounds daft mk2! Eat chocolate, another good source of seratonin.
4. Take a walk, its surprising how a half hour-1 hour walk each day can boost your positive mental attitude.
5. Think about your goals, write them down. Make them SMART (Specific Measurable Acheivable Realistic Timed) and try to work towards them.
6. If it gets too much, the samaritans are a very good at lending an empathic ear.0 -

Sound advice, eggs are good too, especially if you stop drinking alcohol, and sunlight too, it reduces melatonin levels0 -
As for the stress it causes I've been so down I've told the DCa I'd rather slit my wrists than have to deal with them again. If it wasn't for my family I wouldn't be here now. Sometimes it feels like the world is ending, the strength isn't even there to make food or tidy the house.Barclaycard 3800
