I don't feel guilty about being in debt, a wee bit embarrassed maybe... I'm just focusing on paying back as much as possible as quickly as possible and hopefully this time next year I'll be nearly clear. I haven't told family or friends about the extent of my debts just that I'm cutting back and hope to be clear next year and I've been amazed how many of my friends are delighted to join in on cheap nites/days out because they are experiencing similiar problems.

You're in denial because you wish to suppress viewpoints you don't agree with...I might add that abuse has been hurled at me, but being a gentleman I havn't told people to "go Away" in the commen parlance. If you have debt, to some extent you are a slave, I congratulate Martin and his team for doing something about it via DFW.Many people on these boards describe themselves as stupid, well so what? I've been young and stupid too! Personally I would like to see everyone out of debt and living wonderful, happy lives...Take care
U are wrong... I welcome opposing opinion, it'd be pretty pointless if we all sat around agreeing with each other. However, the way u put ur point across is all wrong, and instantly puts people on the defensive. I'm sure u have sound advice too (u are, after all, debt free!), but u have to be careful how u word things as the sentiment of a post can be lost if it is read the wrong way.

I am in a similar position but sadly even worse, I am 19 with £7500 debt, I am a student but frantically looking for a job at the moment, I hve over £200 in bills going out a month with nothing coming in, with 2 credit cards which I believe I am just paying interest for. I don't wake up at 4am in the morning thinking about it...I don't go to sleep at all:cry: I have 2 interviews next week so hopefully I will be able to put an end to some of this debt and perhaps get some sleep

Really enjoyed reading the positive comments on here. This site was my greatest find - free too :D

My debts started when I was 18 and continued growing until I reached the grand age of 30 - that was nearly 6 years ago. I don't regret any of the overspending but thankfully now recognise my own behaviour patterns towards spending. I now shop with more desire for those things I "need" as opposed to "want". I keep a daily interest in what goes in and out of my bank account and always hunt for good deals and check comparison sites prior to a purchase.

Whilst I still have credit card debts I'm hoping to have those paid within a few months. I'll still have car payments and my mortgage which I consider as debts or that I'm renting from the bank which will keep me focused on paying additional sums when I can.

Thankfully I've never felt guilty about the debts but was ashamed to tell people although I've now done that too. The reaction was hilarious and I did get a telling off from a good friend. Like other MSEs have said as soon as I opened up about my situation friends started coming to me for advice on where to shop etc.

For the first time since Y2K I'm planning a cheap weeks holiday in October which will involve getting on a plane.

What's done is done - working out a plan and sticking to it will reap so many rewards. Losing sleep, not eating and not opening those envelopes do not help the situation. There's always a solution even if it takes time to figure it out and coming on here regularly, even just to look, is a shear god send.
