knock down ginger in London . we did it as kids, I'm now 58! Annoying but the kids are only playing and being active . The kids don't realise at the time how annoying it can be for ' some' people . give em a break .old enough for my bones to feel the cold .0

Thankfully the tend to grow-out of this one pretty quickly and IME give-up soonest if they don't see anyone getting riled by it - becomes boring.0

"Apple Knocking" where I came from in Notts. One evening in the late 1950's, myself and two mates took a lot of twine and tied it to first our door, then one across the street. Then a shorter piece to that, then pulled the twine and ran. We hid around the corner, giggling. I heard a door open, followed by my dad's shout "I know who that is, you silly little devil, that was my twine you used!"
When I came home (much later!), I was informed that it was the last of dad's garden twine and he would be taking money from my newspaper delivery earnings, to pay for a new ball of twine.
Never did it again, was also the butt of school jokes for a while.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

My ex used to do knock down ginger as a child and also the Grand National which involved jumping over the neighbours fences and running across the gardens.
I think kids do it for the reaction more than anything.I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:0 -
'Cherry-Knocking' here in South Wales Valleys. and yes, I did it as a kid - and can remember one woman who waited behind her door and caught me. Slapped me very hard in the face - I was probably about 7 or 8. I told my mum and she slapped me. This would have been in the early sixties.
we got our revenge on the 'Slap Woman'. we posted dog poo through her letterbox when she went to work. on a nice hot summer day............0 -
Not where I come from it ain't! We called it Knock Down Ginger!
.
Can I second hiding behind the door and opening it when they approach, it scared the living daylights out of me, I never did it again
We call it Knocky Eye Doors up here, and yes I did used to do it when I was a kid! We did have a conscience though, and didn't knock on any elderly persons door or anyone with young kids....not that it makes it right of course.
The only way they'll stop is if you ignore them. If you open the door/chase them/shout at them, then it'll only encourage them.0 -
