What an inspiring story. What it has in common with all those who succeed in paying down debts are the following factors:-
-a 'lightbulb' moment of recognition of how bad the situation is
-a new sense of reality as opposed to the delusional world of spending beyond one's means
    -a plan to follow
-the self discipline to keep going consistently through thick and thin.

I have also noticed that those who retrench successfully often have mutually supporting partners. They can also resist the siren-calls of friends who would lure them off the straight and narrow so have a few fibs they can tell the tempters.

I have a story from way back which illustrates how 'financial mind set' is the key to prudence. My sister and I were teenagers and I came home with a £30 student debt that I was working at a clothes shop to repay. My sister was solvent but had no money. She desperately tried to persuade me to go to the cinema with her as I had just been paid and she could borrow the money to go. I refused, paid back my debt and missed the treat. She borrowed the money and had the entertainment but nothing to show for after it but the debt. Years later I have savings and she, though earning three times what I receive, is always broke.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Fantastic I'm crying here! I've just cleared mine. The hardest part was wine, takeaways etc.

But, the hugest part was saying no to friends and relatives who had more money - your whole social life whe you have to tell people "we can't go on holiday with you" or "no you can't all come for christmas lunch" or "we can't afford that restaurant"

I love lidl and eBay. Why would I spend more now when I don't have to?

    Well done you xx
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

angiepooos - I have just read your first debt related post and it was in March 2011! - which just makes your achievement even more remarkable! Well done - great inspiration to those who believe that there is no end in sight!

You should be so proud, my last debt will be finished in Jan 15.
It has taken a long time, as pretty well most of it was my ex hubby. Been with my partner for 19 years and it has caused a few rows but we have worked through it and are very happy together.
