You sensible? ;) Definitely :D Look at how you're managing everything on your DF journey, showing skills and thought processes that stand you in good stead whichever route you take :)

It's all about those 'ackers - means to an end ultimately, but if you can enjoy the ride it's more palatable :)

  • Broggers I too have flirted with the notion of SE but for me it's one to keep in my back pocket. I really can't justify my hourly charge out but at least when working for someone else, it is they who set it. I think you need to have a very strong sense of self worth.

No rhythm……no rhyme……the result of this has been not many posts.

I’m not down at all though. I have a sort of smug satisfaction that what I thought would be actually is and very much wish that I could apply this ability of mine to predict the outcome of other events such as horse races (don’t worry – I haven’t even tried that…..not for a few years;))

I can hear the grape must bubbling in the bucket in the walk-in cupboard of my office. I am wishing I had started this one a bit earlier and I could be sipping on it tonight. Not to worry…..its very warm though….I need to turn down the heating. The cat is stretched out in some sort of silent bliss and I have to start printing off documents in connection with ‘possibly’ starting an SE ‘function’ in the new year……

Jobs…….employment…….what is this? Payroll…….PAYE…..9 to 5….? What is all of this? The answer is that it is a great way of paying the bills and hopefully having a little left over for shameful enjoyment. Whilst it took me probably to my mid thirties to work out what was what, I praise and celebrate the worker, whatever it is that they do. I also know from years of doing it that getting up early, working hard, tiring ones self out and then relaxing is a process which allows us to enjoy the things we like to the full. It also gives a feeling of ‘self-worth.’:)

The problem I have is getting a job :(. I have mentioned some of the issues previously and will not revisit those now or I may end up being one of those nutters who shouts in the street :p. The world is as it is. I know people looking for work should keep on at it and that three kickbacks is nothing…….but it is something to me. Nobody will believe what I say here but I am OK with not fitting into a potential employer’s expectations or requirements except that doesn’t help to pay the bills. As I look around I see ‘Toytown,’ I see politics….greed, I see unrealistic expectations and complete and total selfishness. What could I possibly want with any of that? The answer is a few ackers winging their way to the Gnat’s Vest .

The problem is, the more one experiences, the more battle scars one has, the more one sees repeating patterns, repeated mistakes and repeated outcomes :(. All in all it can be very difficult getting excited about it….! So…… the options are ……retirement (ha) or getting prepared to take it all ‘in-house’ ie…….SE …….so:-

    - Arranging purchase of the company car from the company (3 and a bit years old – large bodied 2.0 Tdi saloon - has new tyres / brakes even clutch paid for by the company – has always done everything I need it to do = no brainer.)
    - Acquiring iphone and ceasing to use company device (break habit)
    - Acquire laptop/ tablet which will be necessary in the field.

That’s it for now…..I know there’s a million other things I could be doing but there is not even any certainty I will be SE!! What I am doing is making myself independent of the corporation and ready to do whatever it is I end up doing.

Please note the owner of this thread reserves the right to change their mind at anytime. For the avoidance of doubt it must be understood that this may invlove the accepting of an offer of employment and in that event, the owner would appreciate not being considered a ‘wimp.’ :p

Hoping everybody is well and doing what they’re doing :D

It's good to consider all your options. And taking another job isn't a bad step anyway. Self employment is hard going and scary. Another SE guy a little ahead of me in terms of years on the clock once described it as an adrenaline ride and I have to agree with him. In my humble experience you are either worried about money because it's slow or so busy you feel like you will combust. If you aren't good with uncertainty then I'd rule it out now. And you need to be able to hold your nerve too. If I had a £ for every time me and OH have had the jack it in conversation I'd be rich. But I know I won't. Despite employment earning me a lot more. But once something is yours, & you've fought to set it up and keep it going, walking away is not the easy option.

    Good luck weighing your options.

    Hi Everybody :).

Time is moving on……days turn into weeks and weeks into months and the terribly helpful recruitment agents seem to have given up on me. The fact is this industry has been wiped out by technology. Without going into too much detail, my type of work is near enough gone. Why did those who left before me seem to go into a ‘no-man’s land’ or get another job to be made redundant a second time in a year or two? It tells a story. I am not saying there is nothing at all but I would have to get that job and the competition would be fierce to say the least……..so……..I have given up…….:T

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh……let me whisper in your shell-like…….I’m coming out of the closet and I’ll tell you I’m going ‘SE’……..that’s official……..not forever maybe but hopefully for good (ie. if it works out and I’ll never need to change.)

I can’t wait around waiting for somebody to think I fit in with them or be kind enough to take me on. I am waving two fingers at them all . I have two days training next week so I am going to hold off telling the damned agents until I come away from that hopefully feeling good about it ;).

In other developments, I have made now a total of about £400 in (shhhh……Matched Betting) but I need to leave that alone right now as:-

    • I need to concentrate on training and preparation for SE from Jan 1st
    • The fixed mortgage rate is expiring at the end of the month and I need some brainpower for that.
    • I now have an IFA and this is for me a big job. (I needed one with special permissions under the FCA to advise on Defined Benefits.) Yes – I am worried about the fees and want to deal but not look like a cheapskate g*t :o so a bit apprehensive. I hope I won’t need to shop around.
    • For mental peace I need to finally calculate how much my final and biggest ever pension contribution is to be for December.
    • The car I am pledged to buy has left a ‘rainbow splash’ on the drive……uuuuurgh……:(
    • The central heating inspection is due.

I am dying to do more MB and I will. It may even help with cashflow whilst earnings from the SE work kicks in but I guess I won’t be stuck in until January :(.

Hope all going well with everybody :D.

    Broggers.
