Brogden's Debt Disaster & Self Managed DMP!

Hoping everybody is having a suitably chilled time! !!
I am now starting to get a little more serious on F&F possibilities this year. I have read a number of threads on the best ways to approach the predators. What I have done is to go through my files and determine which of my credit card debts are still owned by the original highly respectable banks and which are now owned by speculators and chancers!!:))
Whilst I thought I was well on top of all of this I felt it necessary to check all of the correspondence with this lot because (as many of you will know) some firms simply 'stand in the way' such as Robinson (stand in the) Way!! They are simply 'administering' collection of a Bank of Scotland debt. Halifax / BoS since their shameful failure being part of the superb Lloyds Banking Group....a thoroughly superb organisation who in a deal with our noble governors crippled themselves badly and would have gone down the tube except we were nice enough to pay a lot of tax to rescue them
!!
Enough of Brogden's cynicism....... Anyway, I find that of ten 'respectable' credit debts, only three are still with the original bank......Sparks & Mencer, Skank of Botland and yes.......the good old Gnat's Vest. I feel I know what to do with S & M (thanks for your input Grannyx2) and will take them by surprise at the end of February. I thought it worth bringing some concern to SoB and the Gnats' though.... I have sent them an I&E and made an offer of final settlement, hoping that it will open up discussion to conclude end of Feb or early March when I have funds available.....let's see what comes!
Just in case anybody is wondering why I have only approached the debts still with the banks early doors.......research on here tells me it is best to take the debt purchasing DCA's by surprise.....possibly on the last day of the month? It might appear they are targeted for 'maximum funds in.' If some idiot rings up with an offer to pay immediately they can get so excited they will agree to anything.........?The Gnats Vest just wouldn't notice or flap a little wing at a million sailing in or out. Please do not bombard me with negative commentary folks.........my tongue is firmly in my cheek
I do believe there is something to be taken on board from this however.......let's see
!!
Have a great day!!

Thanks INOD
I need this mess to be at least tidied up in the next three months, freeing income for proper budgeting and paying down the mortgage. I know I may not be debt free for a long time but it should hopefully not be the embarrassing mess it is currently. Even now, things have been so much worse......the phone seldom rings and stroppy mail has just about ceased :T It has improved and my attitude to sorting it out has improved too......so........keep going and..........
Onwards and upwards :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: !!!!

I will be very interested to see what comes back on the two offers I have made. Ideally I am trying to get rid of the two biggies as soon as possible but I may well not be able to do this and I am fully prepared for maximum disappointment.
If I can't kill the giants I will massacre the minnows and then have a more peaceful and simpler life but my preference is to kill the giants I have to say!! I would then play with the little debts - gives me a little hobby and lots of interesting characters to talk to  !!! Ha

Wow Brogden you don't hang about with your debt busting do you. Good luck, as Verbatim says, with your giant slaying!!
And had to laugh long and hard at INOD. I am very glad I left home early. If I had delayed, I think I would still be there now. I bought my own house just months before the market crashed, which left me in negative equity and leaves me with a mortgage noose around my neck, with an ex I do not speak to. Meanwhile my lovely first home sits empty and abandoned. Sigh. Still... on my own two feet I am. Unless ex stops paying the mortgage and then I am in the mire to the tune of around £60k. Maybe that should be my thing to sort out for 2015....

Property matters sounds a bit complex Lilt. Put some thought into it - simplification is satisfaction isn't it?

Happy New Year Everybody
So there it went 2014…………:o
I know we talk of LBM’s. I had a big one in 2011 when I first joined this site. I was ‘caused’to have it as we suddenly reached a point where the easy and care free life abruptly ended. There had been plenty of warning signs of course. I would pay the credit card bills, sometimes with a telephone prompt
and then work out how much I could then withdraw back in cash before hitting the credit limit
. I would also withdraw from one card to make the monthly payment on others
.
I then started to create my own personalised ‘Payday Loan Trap.’ We all know how this works. I always wanted to repay but I was rolling over, refinancing etc etc. Without exception I had arrears on every single utility….and the mortgage too. I received a CCJ for the water and was awarded with two attachment of earnings orders for Council Tax.
Coming back to LBM’s then……the first one cannot have been the ‘all-encompassing’ one can it? No it wasn’t but neither were the others. It was a ‘metamorphosis’……..a series of mini-LBM’s changing me (not anybody else) into some type of being that I had never before been…..Franz Kafka eat your heart out. The result was thankfully not a large insect like creature (though some may say otherwise) but a person who thoughtfully considered the cost of things and how to be happy without the ‘trappings of self-destruction.’ Hopefully Bob Dylan than a Jimi Hendrix!!
In all honesty, the latter part of this ‘metamorphosis’ has not been difficult as I have become very tired and weary of a lot of the aspects of so-called modern living. I am sick, sick, sick of all politicians (without exception) and working inside a ‘big business’ am sick, sick, sick of the lies, spin and the ‘self-adopted personalities’ of the great and good whose mouths have paid them large amounts of money. I cannot use the word ‘earned.’
Unfortunately I was sold a ‘pup’ in my twenties about working and bringing in business or ‘selling’ (who mentioned that word?) Guess what? The world changes…..my leaders who had the company name printed through their bodies like a stick of rock showed that they didn’t love the business like they said but were happy to run away with sacks of cash. I simply have no belief and where it comes to work and business…I simply do not trust. I carry on and this cynicism which has been growing in me for so long is now my greatest weapon in sorting out my indebtedness and enjoying life.
Simply…..’compartmentalisation’ rules. I am linked to all of this just by a TT payment which puts money in my bank account once a month. Rather than forgetting to pay a bill whilst I put in extra work to secure a big deal for the business I put my own requirements first. I now truly ‘work to live’ and do not ‘live to work.’
What a lot of ranting :mad::mad:. What a good year this is going to be:p:p:p.
I was going to do a status report but with all of this ranting I will have to have a lie down first :rotfl:!!
I didn’t know of this thread until this morning
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5133961
I have just asked to join and I am targeting to rid myself of all of my unsecured debt this year. I will probably fail in that but as I have mentioned before, I have some funds coming in this year and I am going to see how close I can get to being debt free by the end of 2015.
I am sorry again for my rant. I hope nobody thinks I am a complete nutter. I don’t think I am. I think I am coming back to sanity. The utilities and mortgage are all up to date :T:TThis in part is due to sticking two fingers up at public and corporate politicians and concentrating on my own ‘little bit.’ I should have done it years ago.
My warmest and best wishes to all for ‘debt busting’ and ‘good money management’ in TWENTY FIFTEEN……wow what a high number
