OP are you sure you've not been seduced by the new Direct Line ad starring Harvey Keitel?! You know, the one where he drives a de-badged GT86 with a V8 roar dubbed over it.

Really? I'd never seen that!! That sort of thing would put me right off a car :rotfl:

Assuming your sure it wasn't a Lexus LFA?

Racking up the Ignores in this thread. :D

Doesnt change the fact you are being a plank. And of course forum rules state that you are not allowed to tell people you are ignoring that you are ignoring them(ironically). Further more, the system is flawed in that it still tells you the ignored poster is posting rendering it useless.:j so jokes on you. Dare say you'll not find it funny...

I've seen the ad but I hadn't realised it was a GT86, although I did wonder vaguely what car it was.

You're right, I wasn't aware that it came in yet another flavour. Shame they don't sell the GT86 here for the sterling equivalent :D.

The engine.... It's the Subaru 2.0 flat 4 isn't it? With the turbo removed because there wasn't enough room?
Interestingly it also has a valve that opens to allow more engine noise into the cabin when you floor it (or so I was told by someone who worked at a Toyota dealership).

If that car had another 50bhp, it would be an awesome machine. But I think it would also kill a lot of people.

It's just like how salt has been taken out of all our food, leaving it flavourless and making us crave salty snacks. Cars these days have been built to stop the idiots amongst us killing themselves, leaving the enthusiasts to seek out older cars from a bygone era.

Would tend to agree that it would be nice for more ponies off the shelf with the 86/BRZ and yes there is a widget to direct more noise to the cabin, which is a little silly.

However there is a huge amount of stuff you can do to the 86/BRZ to tweek it to your liking, a lot of which will NOT effect the warranty on the car, I think this is part of the ethos of the car. I'm hoping that they bring the 'lightweight' version to the UK, it's basically a blank canvas purely set up for the enthusiasts to modify to their liking.

A good few Celica and MR2 owners have bought them which does speak volumes to me.
  • I have driven the GT86 and its an amazing car for what it is. Similar sort of cars to the s2000 and rx8. High revving and less torquey but brilliant handling and lots of fun.

Depends what you prefer. If you want a car that pulls like a train and don't like to work the engine for it to move then it probably isn't the car for you.

Did you test drive that whilst waiting for your Lexus to be 'delivered'?
  • I'm not sure about there not being enough room. I know someone who has his rated at 360bhp with a turbo bolted on. 0-60 in 3.9 seconds!!!

So faster than a 911 GTS, which is lighter, lower, has less drag with fatter tyres, porsche launch control, four wheel drive, and 46bhp more?

    Riiiiiight....

I think if they were a bit cheaper they would have done better.
