Strider, when you say the GT86 is slow, I presume you mean accelaration due to the lack of torque and the need to rev hard to get into the power band for quick getaways. If you were using it for every day driving would that be a significant issue, and otherwise would it be a nice place to be in?0

Compared to your current car it will feel quick.
If you want a pokey everyday car get a diesel.0

No, that was just as pointless0

Assuming you decide to buy one of these fine cars Agrinnall, the choice of which make could be a tricky one.
Whilst Toyota have the edge on warranty, 5 years, in your area i know Subaru have a loyal following so no doubt have some first class dealers, whilst Toyota dealers seem to vary, with, as one might expect, more rural dealers being better overall.
It might be worth enquiring at either dealer, depending on location and your knowledge of them as to which you'd prefer, if they would be prepared to service the other make, might make a difference which badge you go for.0

I dont think the average driver will notice any difference.
I would have the BRZ in Mica blue.
Sadly I wont be buying either we are looking at a Kia rio:D0

I test drove a GT86 when they came out. I have a Cayman as daily driver and was interested to see how the handling compared. I thought the Toyota was not a million miles away, however it did have a much lighter controls, which I think is where it loses its driving feel.
It is a little down on power to most hot hatches (there again so is my car) and, whilst this makes little difference on a day to day basis, I decided not to change as I do like the occasional bit of gratuitous acceleration . .
One major gripe I did have with the GT86 was the front seat tilt mechanism. They don't have a "memory" function. If you slide the seat forward to put something on the back seat you have to adjust it again to get the correct driving position. I did test the car in 2012 so this may have changed on later models.
As to how they compare to the Subaru, I think the magazine reviews said the Subaru handled slightly better. But, I guess for most of us the difference is so small we wouldn't notice it.
So to sum up, if I was looking for a new car, the GT86 would be on my short list. I think it looks stylish and the cabin is a nice place to send time in. It will have low running costs, especially with the 5 year warranty. But, I'd have to think long and hard about the issue with the front seats.0

Agrinnall, as it's still quite a rare car with low numbers sold you might be better reviewing the Subaru and Toyota owners forums. When I was looking to buy a Saab 93 aero i registered with the forum, asked as many questions and read up on the running costs/issues owners had had. Great source of information.0
