Refused credit card

in Credit cards
Hi, me and my partner have never had a credit card, but we were advised that it is a good idea to get one to help our credit rating for a mortgage.
We both applied for a card from our bank (we belong to the same bank) and he got turned down, but my application was accepted. I don't understand why as we are on average wages, with low outgoings and savings.
Why would he get refused?

what do his credit files say
what is his income0 -
He applied for a £2 credit check with Experian 10 days ago, he's still waiting for the pin thing.
£23,000 income. Now you mention the income, there is a possibility he filled in the form wrong and put his weekly wage instead of monthly. Oh dear.
We'll call the bank tonight. I hope the rejection doesn't affect his credit rating, and I hope the bank do issue him a card.0 -

Because the prospective lender would have reviewed his application for credit and decided he did not fit their lending profile. This is usually because the risks involved in lending to him were considered too high by the prospective lender.
I know nothing about your b/f so cannot possibly comment. However, if, as it appears, you plan to settle down with him and attempt to buy a house together, I think you need to first have a real good talk with him about it and get to the bottom of things. There's obviously some thing's he's not told you about0 -
I know it looks that way, but we have been together 20 years and he hates credit cards, form filling etc. I know he hasn't had credit before as he asks me to help with forms, and I feel like I messed up this one for him, I should have noticed the error.0

I think you should stop watching the Jeremy Kyle show for a while, it has started to affect you.

I have noticed over the years that if you say boyfriend, you are considered to be in a new relationship...0

the refusal will only show on his credit record as an application for credit
I would suggest you wait until he gets his credit records and then try again will an other CC provider being very careful to fill in the application correctly
obviously he is on the electoral roll?0 -
Thanks for yor help. Yes, he is on the electoral roll.0

What a weird thing to think let alone say.0 -
check credit report first for any inaccurate information. Check he is on the Electoral Roll (paying council tax is not enough)
then wait........
then try this tool but please remember it is only a guideline and never guarantees being accepted
https://creditcards.moneysavingexpert.com/?bad-credit
once you/he have been accepted please make sure you set up a D/D to pay the minimum amount, even if you plan to pay in full, that way you will never miss a payment otherwise this will show on your credit report and have a negative impact
good luck
