After from over 55 years of smoking just about every make of cigs on the market and for over 20 years rolling my own I took the plunge in May and gave "ecigs" a try and can honestly say that I have not looked back.
Yes there MAY be a risk {long term} in using the liquids but IMO as long as they are not sold the way and in the places that "normal cigs" are then there should be far less risk to the younger generation than there was for us. It took a very long time to prove that your packet of 10/20 could kill you and with the "cheap fakes" that are brought into the UK from some of the countries on the continent I feel far safer and fitter using ecigs

Its only my personal opinion but anyone who inhales anything like this is not an ex smoker.
You are still a smoker, its just that you 'smoke' something different to a 'normal' cigarette.

I went the whole hog and stopped altogether, I haven't had a ciggie for nearly 6 months and I can truly say 'I am an ex smoker' and I am very very proud of myself.

Congratulations on being able to stop as you have, call me whatever you like but I have not the willpower to not have my "fix". I know that it is not good for me but I just cannot/will not stop so this IMO is the best way I can go.
I respect fully people like yourself that can just pack it up just like that {both my wife and two sons did it as well without any aids} but I am afraid I am not one that can

Oh, please believe me, I didn't just 'pack it up' just like that, it took a heart attack and major will power and six weeks of patches to even scratch the surface. I have smoked for over 50 years so I although I have no nicotine cravings I am still dealing majorly with the habit. I could still kill for a 'smoke' but not for a 'cigarette' if you see what I mean. And if I can do it after smoking for that length of time, then anyone can.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the potential of something nasty in there that could be diminishing peoples health in the long term - much in the same way that cigarettes don't make people drop dead on the spot, or asbestos not killing people on the first inhale.

I don't use e-cigs but I am an ex smoker. I actually considered importing and selling them myself but for the risks I have talked about here, I decided against it. I'm not trying to scare anyone, I just find it all a bit odd. I'm probably completely wrong and could have made a small fortune!!

The few medical studies which have been done so far suggest there is nothing seriously harmful in e-cig liquid. The British GMC are saying they need to get with it on this and do long term studies and get regulation. I happen to agree.

I can see where you're coming from on this but could I ask you: what in your opinion is better, smoking cigarettes or using an e-cig? Which one is more harmful in your opinion?

It is a no brainer to be honest.

As far as we are all aware and told by the so called experts then the normal cigarette has to be by far the worst.

50 odd years of cholesterol build up, and a heart attack, but then again, I have no idea as to what 50 odd years smoking an ecig would have done.

Like I say, just my own personal opinion, I wanted, eventually, to be able to say 'I don't smoke'
In fairness, if I was ever so bad that I had to give in, it would be an ecig that I would have and not a Benson lol.

Using that logic then, I don't smoke. I accept I'm still addicted to nicotine but I'm an ex-smoker as I don't use tobacco anymore. Would you say that's fair comment?

    ~Sorry, no, I don't agree,

This is what I said above.“

You contradict yourself. If you don't use tobacco as you say above, then you are not addicted to nicotine. You are addicted to the habit of smoking...... What is it that you actually smoke.....

But there are far more factories producing far more different liquids than the medical studies have tested. They have probably tested the few main ones, the 'big' names. Its all the thousands of others that are landing on our shores to be sold by the thousands of on and offline independents and bedroom sellers that worry me.

Its so simple for anyone, anywhere to get on to the likes of Alibaba and find a Chinese supplier of e-cig liquids. There will be literally thousands of factories over there churning the stuff out. And you just don't know what many of them are putting in there. If the Chinese can save a penny per bottle, they will do it. Some will do it properly, others.... well goodness knows.

I'm well aware of the dangerous, untested, electrical goods that are being imported by thousands of part time/lazy/unwise sellers and property has been damaged, people have been hurt. I just hope the e-cig market isn't the same.

I won't go on and I'm really not trying to alarm anyone, its down to the individual to weigh up the risks, if any. I'm glad its helping people give up real cigs. Its just as I said, I just find it really bizarre that literally thousands and thousands of people are inhaling something that they don't necessarily know 100% what is actually in the stuff.

I will watch the topic with interest.

I just wish I had your resolve, perhaps I am lazy regarding it and taking IMO the easy option but {for now at least} I will just be a convert to the ecigs. I have had a number of angina attacks, been ordered by my GP to stop smoking and I just hope my next visit to him will show that for now I have gone part way to what he had said but at the moment the ecig route is the best he or anyone else will get out of me:)

"Chemical workers" like you seem to enjoy scare mongering.

Two can play that game and I would tell you that those with little or no expertise have an amazing capacity to comment on internet forum.

It scares the pants off me just how good the general public can be when it comes to ignoring safety warnings.
    Always overestimating...
