  • Wohoooooooo.

Got through to the automated DLVA phone system but now "all our operators are busy so please try again later"

Could not find an alternative number, only the old 0870 and the new 0300.

Ah well its getting there. (I hope)!

    K

0300 number is an alternative to 0870. It's included within free allowances, and is charged as a local call.
  • Our old tax disk expired at the end of September so we are the first car in the street without a displayed tax disk. We have paid DVLA on-line. Owners are still sent reminders that the tax is due, you just don't receive a tax disk.
We are keeping the receipt just in case.....

Oh b*ll**s. Ours expired yesterday so we've paid online. Forgot to remove the tax disc this morning. :wall:

I bet we get people nosying at our tax-disc-less car for the next few months until everyone catches on.

EDIT - QUESTION: I've just read that tax discs can be removed from all cars today, i.e. not just those where the disc has expired. Is this correct? The disc in our other car expires in a few months...

They aren't. Paying tax online has been offline for about 12 hours so far.

There must be someone working though, as they are updating their Twitter account.

    "Unprecedented demand"

    um, sure :rotfl:

And even before that, a few days ago, the reference number on my V11 renewal form produced online and automatic phone system responses that they have no records for this vehicle.

Even the telephone operators cannot access the systems...major crash at DVLA,I suspect?

As my telephone operator reminded me this morning .....[after she, too, was frustrated at trying to get the system to work]....it is mentioned on the V11, that the RK has 14 days to tax/SORN the vehicle, after the due date, without breaking the Law....as long as the vehicle isn't used on the road in the meantime.

Fine for me, as I was trying to SORN....

Using Post Offices, or telephones, can involve cost.[for me,certainly!]

The online systems need improving dramatically.

[If Amazon can do it, why not DVLA?]
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

    Yes. Remove whenever you like.

Amazed anyone still doesn't know the answer to that though, bearing in mind how much coverage there has been online, on TV, here on MSE, etc.

270 thousand plus calls / connections have broke the DVLA system today .
Bit like the old DVLA office where half the world turns up on the first off the month .

Luckily for me, after problems with the V11 form number being invalid, I phoned on Monday, when they may have been slightly less snowed under than last night or today.

In the end, the simplest solution was order a replacement registration document and pay the tax while talking to someone on the phone, rather than lose more working time waiting at the post office.

Who's taken the tax disc off already? Mine's still on at the moment, feels a bit odd!

Mine has been on dashboard last month and half, the tax disc holder lost it's stick, so knowing it was going saved me money not buying another holder. Last night back from gym, parked on drive, tax disc in bin.

Their own website stats say it's been not working at all for 14 out of the 16 hours up to midday today, with some restricted usability at 11 pm last night. So that's 16 out of 18 by now

Edit: the online check isn't working either.

What can you expect from the Govt, IDs told us UC was the best thing since sliced bread and they couldn't get that to work, and now the road tax.
So what will happen if the Police stops someone who hasn't managed to tax his car.
