I know it might sound silly but www.taxreminderdisc.com do replacement tax discs.. they aren't replacements for tax discs but as you no longer need a disc i figured why not. Just bought one for my dad as he's used to looking on his screen and i know full well he will have a break down if he has to go online and check lol.
  • So, how to avoid being robbed for VED. How about, if I buy a vehicle which has 2 weeks tax left on it, that the seller and myself come to an agreement that the logbook/change of ownership won't be submitted to DVLA until the end of the 2 week period, after which all documentation is officially exchanged between buyer and seller, and the DVLA get everything which they require. The new owner then taxes the vehicle from day one of the next month, thus ensuring that all prepaid duty has been used up, and the DVLA are not double-taxing. Would that work? After all, ANPR will say the vehicle is still taxed.

Yeh, I'd be happy to have a total stranger driving around in a vehicle I was still legally responsible for, just so that he could save a tenner or so.

    What could possibly go wrong...?
  • OK, so just HOW can we stop the DVLA from 'double-dipping'?

We get over ourselves, and stop trying to penny-pinch. DVLA's budget is DVLA's budget. We, the taxpayer, pay it one way or another.

If you bought an untaxed car mid-month a year ago, or a decade ago, you paid tax for the month or SORNed it until the next month. Same now.

The average vaguely modern car is under a tenner monthly tax. How much does your insurance company charge to change your policy over? How much does it cost you to advertise your old car for sale? How much does it cost in fuel to go and look at cars to buy?

Fantastic - no sooner do we get rid of a useless disc - but some entrepreneur starts up making them for folks who need to see the VED & MOT expiry dates displayed on the windscreen, lest they forget.

Very 'moneysaving' - I certainly won't be getting one.

I do understand lazynewt's concern for his Dad - but wouldn't it be simpler if he just took a note of his dad's info and reminded him himself. Too lazy maybe ;)

Or write it on the back of a jam-jar label and stick it in the windscreen - that would be free.

Do we really need to pay some smart guy to do it for us? :(
