That stopped in 1936...phone_angel wrote: »I always thought that the revenue from tax discs was meant to repair the roads
The small problem with that is that it'd raise costs on businesses - especially haulage - MASSIVELY.I think they should get rid of road tax altogether as it is now a nonsense and tax you on road usage through fuel0 -
This is going to be a pain when buying and selling a car. Will there be a big rush to complete sales on the last day of the month?
I wonder how it will work for used car dealers.0 -
What's wrong with that? Surely it makes sense for those that use the roads more to pay more tax, rather than lower mileage users subsidising them. The small problem with that is that it'd raise costs on businesses - especially haulage - MASSIVELY.
It would also mean it would be impossible to dodge paying the tax.0 -
They tell us the road tax will be enforced by ANPR cameras
Now living in rural suffolk we have no fixed cameras as in cities or main A roads, so thats out then
I also believe that on police traffic cars have these cameras, not the rural patrol car.
To me its recipe for massive tax avoidance, ridiculous idea !0 -

What happens when you buy a car and want to drive away from the seller's location? You can't because you haven't paid the tax yet?0

I suspect, in practice, that the DVLA aren't actually going to know that the car's been sold until the V5C turns up in their postbox. So the old tax won't be cancelled for a few days. This will give you time to pop down the Post Office and buy a new one.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
