A friend took her UK bought iPad into the Apple Store in Murcia (Spain) and had it replaced for free, and without question, when it was over 12 months old. She was told the warranty was 2 years and covered the EU.
The fault was that it wouldn't turn on.0 -
That's not "knowing less than you", that's just the staff doing their job as taught, there aren't many companies that would allow their staff to use unauthorised third party software to repair a customers equipment. It's not worth the potential liability issues if a problem occurs down the line after being used.
Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that when Apple is the retailer it is now the normal procedure to offer 24 months cover.
It was a case of them not being able to sort my problem but indicating to me that they had done all that could be done, which was incorrect.
It is the only time I have been disappointed with their service.
Fortunately there are many other helpful people out there who can rectify, some, problems that Apple can't.0 -

I would still disagree, they had done all that could be done by them.
It's up to you if you wish to use third party methods, the manufacturer hasn't authorised those methods, so they aren't available to those technicians.
What would happen if that third party software injected malware or spyware as part of its repair and it causes a data breach of your banking details? The manufacturer just won't take that chance.
That isn't a rule only followed by Apple, most big companies work to that rule.====0 -

They indicated to me that nothing else could be done. Not just by them but that the information was unrecoverable.

I understand there to be a batch with poor quality Flux Capacitors.
Also the common problem with the dilithium crystals since they changed the surface mount package.0
