Will they still send out reminders or will everyone now pay by DD?

Yes - reminders as normal - DD is an additional payment method.
  • You will have the option to pay by DD from the end of October.

I don't see that there will be any change in the number of non-payers.

There will be an increase in the number of ANPR cameras and the DVLA already have a data base for exactly that purpose - the disc serves no purpose.

I think this from the DVLA sums it up:

"We have a proven track record in making vehicle tax easy to pay but hard to avoid, with over 99% of all vehicles taxed. Given the systems now in place we take enforcement action direct from our electronic records rather than requiring a tax disc."
SO what stops someone having some number plates made up with my registration number? As long as I tax and insure mine, they get a free ride, and will only get found out if they're stopped by the police or (worse for me) get involved in an accident.

    Hmm.

VIC checks are being abolished because only a fraction of Cat C cars are being brought forward. And it seems DVLA have no idea where the others are (they are assuming export).

I can quite believe that 99% of cars showing on the DVLA registers are texed, but there could well be quite a lot which they aren't monitoring.

Exactly the same as currently. If you really believe that round piece of paper is somehow fraud-proof, I've got a bridge for sale.

Putting a Cat C through a VIC just means DVLA start re-sending you the tax reminders, and allows a new V5C to be sent if it's sold. That's all. You can retax an un-VIC'd CatC off the old V5C doc number or at a PO without bother. Then run it into the ground.

They dont care, thats your problem, they make more money removing the tax from the car and sticking it on the keeper.
    Why shouldn't they ?
They have worked out that they have broken us in at last and they can now do anything they want to us and we will stand it.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • They forecast that lots of people wont bother taxing their cars anymore. With no visible disc for nosey neighbours to check how will anyone know?

The theory is that DVLA will (or should!!) know if a vehicle is licensed, SORN, or in trade, from their database.
If it isn't, and it is required to be licensed, they can just deal with the registered keeper for the offence of using or keeping an unlicensed vehicle.

    No one displays a M O T certificate!
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

In Northern Ireland they do - the same size as, and alongside the VED disc.

    And in many other countries.

Don't forget that the aim is to standardize throughout the EU.

Reading various news sites yesterday and they reckon its going to cost the DVLA a fortune in untaxed vehicles.

They forecast that lots of people wont bother taxing their cars anymore. With no visible disc for nosey neighbours to check how will anyone know?

Only way they will get caught is by ANPR.

Nothing will change, part of the reason for this change is because of people grassing each other in.... It creates a politically incorrect nightmare for the govt and the DVLA.
