Uninhabitable flat- Urgent help needed for kids in first flat

I agree but I think it unlikely that a property in that condition has a landlord registered with the uni."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Well what do you expect if you ask ridiculous questions whose answers are obvious from the OP if you bothered to read it.0 -
Well, what can I say. I have been both saddened and gladdened by some of these responses.
It feels as if some people are gloating over the awfulness of this situation and to suggest that I could not be a***d to do anything is insulting to the extreme. However there are some helpful and kind responses for which I am really grateful.
Today I have contacted the other parents, we have written to the landlord. I have emailed the EHO for Lewisham and will call them tomorrow to ask them to assess the place.
I continue to be hopeful that the people who want to crow and gloat over someone else's hardship will soften when they have their own troubles to bear. These young people are studying Chemistry not law, they are scientists not students of Rachmanism. And us parents, we are new to this- we are trying to do the best we can whilst working long hours to pay for the huge fees for tuition and housing for our student offspring. These are the youngsters that will invent alternatives to oil based fuels, will make our world a better place- why would anyone think they would have been educated to understand the world of rogue landlords?
I continue to be glad to recieve helpful ideas of things we can do to resolve the situation and respectfully ask that you only post here if you have something helpful to offer. I have the gift of hindsight. It is 20:20 but we are where we are and I am trying now to sort things out.0 -

They are young students, I would suspect the state of the place is of little importance to them as long as they are getting plenty of sex and alcohol. It's always been the same.orangefusion wrote: »Well, what can I say. I have been both saddened and gladdened by some of these responses.

Going to University is as much about learning such facts of every day life as getting a degree. You will have to stop hand-holding at some point and let them learn!0 -
Once again I am saddened by odd, sanctimonious and patronising responses.
At Imperial they teach chemistry and produce nobel prize winners. At your university anseld and Bantex they seem to produce bullies and bear baiters.
I shall now withdraw from this bear pit where I feel ill equipped to deal with the vitriol and schadenfreude.

I'd wind your neck in a bit. It's perfectly valid to point out that failing to check a property properly only to discover that it's a health risk on moving in day is somewhere in the region of reckless and stupid.
On the other hand It's also a bit unhelpful to point it out.
In forums you get what you give, if your manner offends others they will react badly. Your attitude appears dismissive, patronising and snooty.
