I have every sympathy for the OP having been in that situation myself. My son going off to uni was a learning curve for me in as much that no one in any capacity would talk to me as he was an adult, regardless of the fact I was footing the bill.
I think the big mistake was to make 18 the age of majority when clearly many many youngster would fare better as minors till 21. Bur that's a whole new debate.
Hopefully the OP's son will learn from this, being in the murky world of renting, and at least this is only a short term situation and maybe next year he will get a better billet.0 -

This is very different, this property was rented from day one in a state of disrepair so has been accepted for what it is.pmlindyloo wrote: »I see this post as no different to anyone else posting about disrepair.
If it had been tenant hard done by the LL not doing anything to an already tenanted property then the help would have been very different.0 -

You will get lots of posts about the fact that they chose the place in the first place!
I'm with you on this one. Young people do not magically grow up when they are eighteen. I agree that they have to learn but it is a long process and perhaps we mums do overprotect them but that's what mums do! Going straight from school to uni doesn't help, does it?
The landlords sound horrendous - hope they get their comeuppance. No doubt the young people were promised this and that or they just were over excited by being out of halls.
I hope this thread can be put to rest now - enough already said!0 -

Still missing the point! The posts you didn't like were not supporting the Landlord, just advising that the Students stand up for themselves rather than let Mum deal with it.0 -
The lesson learnt is
1) never trust your mates to pick a house for you
2) never sign a contract if you have not seen the house.0 -

No-one supports the crooks but everyone keeps telling you that junior and his mates need to deal with this not helicoptor parents. And you ignore the advice.
If you can find that story, why did mate not just google the name of the LL or even check with the union welfare office before signing them up???
Junior needs to get his butt down to the union welfare office and then speak to environmental health at the Council. Ideally junior wants the place declared unfit but that leaves him looking for another place.
Let him do it and feel proud of himself rather than micro-managing his life.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
You (he) might well find that the local EH department already have a file on these blokes.
