  • Just a few questions.

Anyone got this deal without getting on contract?

Or get any other special deal or discount.

I've been with AOL since 2001 and am OUT of contract so hope to use this to my advantage.

Just wondered what I should be haggling for?

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Hi all this is my 1st post.

Just thought I would let everyone know how my order with AOL is going, ordered online on Monday 5th October, received an email & text confirmation.

Received letters of confirmation, my username & password and pamphlet about lap top.

Today I have received a letter saying very sorry but my phone line is not capable of taking broadband (Yes it is).

Called them and they say there is a problem with my MAC, so ring BT to check my MAC which is correct.

AOL have now said we will have to reapply for the whole lot again due to this problem with the MAC even though according to BT there is no problem with the MAC.

Getting ready to pull my hair out now.

lozzle, if you are on the BT light user scheme that can cause trouble.
  • With the offer you get a Dell Inspiron 1520

On the UK Dell website the Inspiron 1520 sells for £549 however it has a much higher specification (there is an inspiron 1520 on the US Dell website that has the same specification as the option 3 laptop that costs £150 extra, in the US it sells for £350)

The cheapest laptop Dell UK sell is £399 and has a higher specification than the one offered by carphone warehouse.

I suspect they have taken an Inspiron 1520 case and put the cheapest parts they could find in it just to get rid of them. In fact I purchased a new laptop 2 years ago and it had a similar specification to the one offered by carphone warehouse in the current offer.

If you are happy with a word processor and web browsing great, if you want to play games do not take up this offer as the laptop will not play many of the pc games currently for sale.

Just somthing to consider if thinking of taking up the offer.
  • Yep if you want to play games this is not the laptop for you. If you want to use it for every day work, surf, etc its ideal...
  • As anyone else been told there is a problem with supplies of the laptops and there is going to be some delays. I've been waiting ages and told the earliest they can supply is end of October. I'm not happy as I have been in contract with AOL now for over two weeks and should have received my laptop by now. If the laptop does not show can they hold me to the AOL contract ? As I only ordered because of the laptop offer. I signed up originally on September 6th. I have been shunted from pillar to post from AOL to Carphone Warehouse and back again are they not the same company now ?

Had a letter today offering free laptop with aol. didn't take them up on original offer as they quoted £29.99 a month for broadband.
