I don't know about you but recently both at our work offices and at home we received a small card to say Royal Mail delivery services would be changing in our area.

What this has meant here is that rather than the one set postman which we used to have we now have a different postman nearly every day of the week. Royal Mail now seem to be using mostly part time or agency workers to deliver our letter mail whilst using a new fleet of vans to deliver small packets and parcels.

We used to get our post mid morning at the same time every day now it can be any time, a few weeks ago we got a delivery at 6pm from them - apparently the postman had had to do two rounds as they were short staffed.

These changes have lead to some of our post being miss delivered, a flat with the same number as our house in the next street has received out post about five times in the past couple of months, luckily the chap there brings it round to us. Also 'singed for' post is now delivered as normal. I was handed a packet by one postman and queried didn't I need to sign for it as it clearly was sent as 'signed for' and he said no, they didn't do that now. I do feel that's wrong, if Royal Mail are charring for signed for post then surely it should be delivered as such.

I've also had a couple of things we've sent at work not arrive or go missing, the first time this has happened in as long as I can remember.

It was certainly more helpful when there was an expected set time for us but I guess its more about profits for Royal Mail than in delivering a good service now.

I will keep this as brief as possible, but i am
absolutely fuming with the post office and my
local postman. I have lived in my home for 23
years and have seen my post being delivered
later and later and later as time goes by. Now
it has reached the stage where my letters
sometimes arrive as late as 2pm!
I challenge the postmen about this
frequently and they say it is nothing to do with
them and it is decision of the post office and
many deliveries are now made later.

is it just coincidence that after i told the
current postman that 2pm was too late to be
delivering the post as i am sometimes not in to
receive special deliveries, which could be
important, suddenly i have had important
letters containing vouchers and other things
    of value go missing?

so now i have an unreliable postal service and a
potman who is a thief. great service NOT!
Post isn't guaranteed for delivery at any particular time of the day so get a grip and stop being a moaning git.

Did anyone else read this as a poem? Or at least an ode?

RM use very very few agency staff in deliveries.

Their work force is still primarily full time. However PT increases year on year.

Royal Mail had always delivered my post around that time, in fairness though I do live about 2 miles outside of a relatively rural town, which is about 10 miles away from the nearest local depots.

Should be grateful you get deliveries 6 days a week. We don't get normal post deliveries on a Thursday - not had a Thursday normal delivery for a year or so. They deliver parcels and special delivery letters, but not normal post.

postmen/women in our area don't finish until 3-15, then some do overtime,
i suggest calling RM and demand they revise the whole duty so that your house is the very 1st on the frame, also i urge everyone who reads this to do the same :wall:

I think our postmen have a rota. It's being delivered at about 8.30 at the moment, but sometimes it's around 11 or 12. No big deal.

likely your duty will be lapsed. meaning the staff take parts of a delivery on top of their regular duty. often they will go out and do this first thing.

Genuine question - why are so many people so bothered about post arriving in the afternoon instead of the morning? I remember about 20+ years ago our post would be delivered at around 8-9am. Now I live somewhere different and so do my parents so it could be a change in area rather than time, but neither of us get our post until the afternoon. And it doesn't make the blindest bit of difference, as back in 'the good old days' we would already have left for work/school before it was delivered anyway. (If anything it's better for all of us having post delivered later in the day as my parents are retired so they don't want to be woken up early for a parcel delivery and I often work very early hours so I'm more likely to be home when the post is delivered.) I've spoken to other people about this and pretty much everyone I know thinks the same, most don't remember there ever being a time when their post was delivered so early that it arrived before they'd left for work etc, and for those that did they wouldn't bother to open it until they got home anyway. And they'd usually still have to get parcels redelivered as they'd just get a red card whether they were home or not. So really, what odds does it make? As long as it turns up and doesn't get stuck in the system for weeks who cares? I'm glad to see more people on here agreeing with this!

Although I disagree with the OP's vent and am quite happy to have my parcels delivered whatever time of day they happen to turn up, not everybody works early hours or is retired and doesn't want to be woken early. ;)
