So what is going on with foxtons then? Bad management?

I don't know much about them but maybe nothing's going on and the original owners of the business simply managed to do a wonderful job of marketing their float.

The only reason Foxtons is being used by the crashaholics as a futures index for London property is because there isn't a share price history to backtest this supposed correlation - they hope there's a correlation - that's all.

If (that may prove be a very big 'if') the original share price wasn't too optimistic, then history may show that the current price is a reasonable buy. But I'm not going to get sucked into catching falling knives, I am too risk averse now to invest in single companies, and I acknowledge that I don't know enough to claim that the price is too cheap to ignore.

  • Lower expectations in the market of the future profitability of Foxtons I expect. Tesco's share price isn't looking too healthy but that doesn't mean the price of groceries is about to halve.

    yes it does
    look at EU inflation
    and UK inflation
    and the price of commodities
