Oh god Sandhy when you said your daughters cot being thrown out of the window, I thought for one awful moment.....
What an absolute !!!!!!!.
My own awful Christmas memories are of Mum and Dad screaming at each other over money as usual and me hiding in my bedroom to get away from it. I have never really enjoyed a Christmas since. can't usually wait for it to be over with.0 -
If anyone wants to know why I hate Christmas you can take the Chris Rea song 'Driving home for Christmas' which does my head in every time I hear it. I used to dread it. The man going home to spend up to 10 days with his family.
Filled me with dread.
Incidents too numerous to mention. In random order: My daughter's cot being thrown out of the upstairs window because she had done something wrong. Seeing it broken and shattered on the ground. Him always saying he will break that child's spirit. My son running upstairs in terror as he was on the receiving end of a rage attack. I had to stand my ground between them or let my son cop it. I took the blame and punishments for things that went missing or were broken by the kid's mishaps rather then let them take the punishments. If I hadn't stocked up on produce properly. If something had run out I would be punished. I went without or went without 'privileges' . My daughter's toys being smashed up because she had done something wrong. Once she bought a little plastic toy from a school fund raising market. He stamped on it and smashed it up yelling about her spending money on tat. Him ripping an electric cable out of the wall and the electrics sparked, and took out the fuse. Frightening. Me having dinner poured over me because it wasn't right. Him having to have the freshest bread in the house and the freshest milk because of who he was. Me and the kids had to use up the old stuff. Him !!!!ing in the sink. Him !!!!ing in the hand basin. That's gross. He used to claim he was being considerate he didn't want to disturb anyone by flushing the loo ...but half the time he forgot to flush when we were awake!
I hated Christmas and the so-called happy family times together.
Nothing but bad memories.
I survived. My kids survived. We are in a much better place now. It was tough but worth it. He is history and a lonely old man.
We have all moved on and are happy now. This time of year and it's cosy image is bitter sweet. Shopping madness and consumerism at it's worst.
Puts me just being generally humbug because of the consumerism to shame.
Couldnt just read and say nothing.
Pleased your in a better place!

WOW Sandhy, what an utter git your ex sounded.
Problem is, more women live like this than many people realise....
(And some men too...)
Hope you are OK now, and your children didn't end up too emotionally scarred. You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

I hope all the people who've posted on this thread that they don't like Christmas because of unhappy memories eventually find good ones to replace them. :xmastree:0

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas lights, but not in November! The build up to Christmas used to be more exciting when the build up actually started in December. Now a days, people just get sick of it when stuff is in the shops from late September/early October.
Things may not be what they seem. I had a friend who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in October. It was touch and go whether he would survive until Christmas. His wife decorated the house in November and all his family celebrated Christmas early. Sadly he died at the beginning of December but his family got to spend one last Christmas with him - in November:o0 -
The only thing I like about Christmas is spoiling my children and that's because they don't get many material treat during the rest of the year and they are great children who deserve a special day. They never ask for much, don't expect much and are always over the moon with what they get. They are the perfect people to treat. Everything else I could do without!
Thats exactly my sentiment to !, i hate xmas with a passion , but i like it for my kids & grandchildren , & mr scrooge as spent 3k to enjoy the fun while cooking the barbeque!, ah well , merry xmas everyone.

I don't like Christmas...
Im off work, and confined to the house...I have a plan...I've found lots of things to do around the house (fix car/cut down trees) during Christmas Day/Boxing Day.
I plan to exit and run the local ParkRun on Fri/Sat.0 -
Hi everyone, I hope you have all enjoyed this lightheared thread as much as I have
Just wanted to wish everyone a merry christmas, which is totally ironic considering the point of the thread, yes
What I mean to say is, despite the much hated consumerism etc, I think , religious aspects aside, a lot of folk are using christmas as reason to get together with family and loved ones. It is everything else about xmas that winds me up, and the build up to it
I hope everyone has a good a day as possible whatever your version of christmas is xxWith love, POSR0 -
I hate Christmas, gave my mom and sister some money, so total cost £200 and get nothing in return - because i tell people not to buy me anything.
Glad i don't have kids
I think my biggest hate is the crap they put on tv, but just realised i have an old xbox and you can rent films on that, so that will help pass the time.
I am self employed and xmas for me is often lost money because i am mostly service sector. Hoping January is good! need to make some good moola.0
