I've managed to get some annual leave on top of my usual off shift days.

The last night before I went off, the catalogue lady's delivery came through and a variety of night staff from all over the hospital came to collect and pay.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you this year's best seller - Santa hats for chairs.....

I found a similar style on sale for more money than they were paying.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pack-Santa-Dining-Chair-Covers/dp/B00FSGIQ66

A whole night of people just cooing over and showing off their new purchases.

shoot me, just shoot me now.....
The only saving grace of those chair covers is that they're cheap. :rotfl:

There are some pretty vile xmas loo seat covers out there too people this year......:D.

I like meeting up with peeps at xmas, the fairy lights/trees/decs. I also love shopping, so the small bit I do I enjoy, as it also involves lunch and alcohol with a friend. This year, it will be a shorter time shopping at a local village instead of battling town, therefore meaning more time for food and cocktails.......:T. I also like wrapping pressies.

However, I don't like that you Have to be ruddy happy all the time around xmas. If you aren't in a fantastic mood so what, it is allowed. All this fake happiness can be quite nauseating.
This whole pressure to have an insane social diary too. People just don't think about others situations when the xmas probing questions start.
I don't really do xmas work nights either.

I will be going to an xmas eve party as I like xmas eve, spend a quiet xmas day with mum, xmas night at work, boxing day with bf. That is all I can be bothered to plan so far, and will probably be it.

My birthday is after that and always have a lovely night then, NYeve I usually elect to work and am doing so again this year....NYD will be another excuse to eat tapas or steak and drink more cocktails, which I do one time every week anyhow so will be nothing new.

One year when I was going to be working night shift xmas day I refused the offer of lunch at a friends as new I would end up too stuffed and tired for work. So spent the day in bed with a tray of food, cat on the bed with me, tv and movies. I had a great time to be honest. Most people thought I was either weird or depressed.....:D......I wasn't, I just fancied a change.

Watch out for those toilet seat covers folks....they are in a shop near you.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • I'm with you all the way on this one. To me Christmas used to be about taking the time to choose a gift for someone, which you thought they'd like, then spending the time to wrap the gifts which showed how much you cared.

For me the monetary value was immaterial, it was the thought that someone had taken the trouble to think about it, and wrap it for you that meant the most. Now you give your requests - the worst one is "you just buy me a voucher and I'll buy you one" !!!!!!!! - Lets just not bother then. Or "I got this jumper, you can give me the money and it can be my Christmas present - and don't bother wrapping it, just shove it in a gift bag"!

Which is why, for the last few years I have taken part in a charity gift wrapping service in town. Wrapping Christmas presents is something I've always loved to do and this gives me a chance to do this, raise funds and help very busy people by freeing up some of their time. As a bonus I know that on Christmas morning people will be receiving beautifully wrapped gifts instead of something "shoved in gift bag", If you live in the North East and would like to help with this please visit http://www.thechildrensfoundation.co.uk/ for more information.

I'm always sad to wrap the last gift on Christmas Eve but I really do HATE all the hype and buildup which seems to start earlier and earlier each year. Shame we can't just fast forward from September to 2nd January. :T

I'm going to have to see if I can find something like that near me. I absolutely adore wrapping presents so being able to do that and help a charity at the same time is perfect!!
  • Hate it. Especially the rampant commercialism of it all . Was invited by daughter to join her and her sprogs at a restaurant on xmas day. MMMMMMMMMMMM what a great idea! Mummy I don't like this mummy he's broken it etc etc. Oh and better still why don't we screw up someone else's xmas by insisting they work so that we can be bone idle. Wife and I declined. As a change we have invited 3 people who would otherwise be on their own for dinner. Not sure how it will go as its the first time we have done this but it does feel a better idea.
Shops!!! So try and sell me all the overpriced tat I didn't know I didn't need and at the same time take off the shelves all the things I usually buy. Mr shopkeeper do you really have to play the same old tunes all the time, I know all the words by now.
I could go on but I need to leave some space for other people to moan.
  • It could be worse it could be the Krankies
  • One of my friends put their tree up a couple days ago... I despair
Picking myself up and trying to stay standing
  • Actually I have remembered something I do like about xmas. Trying out my latest batch of sloe gin. Xmas marks the start of when it might be ready
