I have often mooted that if one is an inpatient at a hospital then you should equip yourself with a good supply of Roses so as to ensure maximum attention. I cant find it now but an experiment was done in the past in which nurses/doctors/ in hosptials were asked to name types of sweets based on wrapper samples and most scored very highly. Obviously consultants wouldnt score as high as they dont bother themselves with bedside visits much.

I'm not a big fan of Christmas. I like getting presents for people, but I enjoy doing that on their birthdays as well and all the Christmas "spirit" and decor isn't really my thing - I'm much more of a Halloween person. Plus this year will be my first in 25 without my Grandma, and it was always her house we went to at Christmas even when the cooking of the meal got a bit beyond her so we did it. It's just not going to be the same, honestly I'm not sure I'll even go home this year. A poor student christmas with a turkey dinosaur just sounds more appealing than staring at the space my grandma should be in.

I'm not a huge fan of Christmas, but this year's been awful already.

I joined an adult education 'singing group', little realising that I'd joined a [STRIKE]clique of oddballs recruited from Central Casting[/STRIKE] group of delightful ladies who happily sing at Christmas carol concerts.

I'm learning for the first time and they're just going over three versions of Away In The Manger (THREE!? :eek:), a couple of different versions of Silent Night and each week there are more to learn.

There are homework tutorials available on Facebook - the tutor keeps promising to email me links but never does, there's one woman who boldly goes off on her own 'interpretation' of the harmonies putting the people around her off (me included) and the 'harmonies' are flaming painful.

These lessons are torture and I'm paying a fiver a week to practice my singing...

I'll be so glad when this is over.

The adverts we have to endure are awful. They shouldn't start before December 1. They are all about pigging out and everyone receiving the perfect Present from each other load of rubbish.

Loads will be visiting foodbanks no doubt and unwanted tat will be appearing on Ebay after Xmas.:rotfl:

At least some of the Christmas adverts nowadays are better than the awful holiday adverts that used to appear on TV from Boxing Day.
I like the Saintsburys Mog one - but that's because I had my own real-life Mog who trashed the Christmas tree within hours of us putting it up & also managed to get at the turkey which was defrosting and chewed most of one leg. Then was sick all over the kitchen floor.
