We used to have one before we altered the kitchen a few years ago. At the time I only used it for warming up chips from the chip shop so we decided to get rid.
I havn't missed it at all and now we go to a chip shop which sells hot chips.0 -
I must say, my dad, who lives alone, uses his a lot more, so maybe a MW is more useful to those who cook for one a lot. He heats up fresh pies, warms through leftovers, cooks tinned veg and melts cheese & tomatoes on bread.
Another thing I never use is the deep fat fryer. Not used it for about 6 months - in fact we only ever do scampi in it, and I'm sure you can do those in a wok! I might freecycle that, if I can get it clean!0 -
I guess i use mine a fair bit, byt certainly not for microwave meals! :eek:
Some of the things Iuse it for:- sterilising baby bottles (and heating up babies milk)
- killing bacteria on dishcloths
- starting jacket spuds then finish in oven if in a hurry
- defrosting small items e.g. bread rolls (never meat)
- heating soup, baked beans, frozen peas/sweetcorn, frozen spinach
- re-heating meals/leftovers etc
- cooking fishfingers (yes, really!) - takes 2min30 to cook 4 fish fingers for a sarnie
- melting butter, chocolate, cheese
- making custard
- making jam crumblies! :drool:

I use mine probably more now too. I use it to:
1. reheat my home made frozen meals (I never remember to take them out the night before as I use them when I get home and decide I don't fancy cooking!)
2. to make most sauces (eg bread sauce, cheese sauce, custard)
3. to cook fish without stinking the house out
4. to cook most veg
5. to reheat OH's meals when he is home late
6. to melt chocolate when baking
7. to brown mince before putting in the slow cooker
8. to defrost food before cooking (mine is also quite an old one so perhaps not so powerful, but doesn't cook food instead of defrosting)
I've been looking at a combi for when mine finally dies a natural death but I got it as an engagement present 20 years ago and its still going strong!0 -
I only use mine for warming plates up for dinner, sometimes re-heating plated dinners, or homecooked meals which cant be done on the stove and for making a milky coffee before bedtime.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I use mine alot but only because it is a conventional oven also.My cooker is a huge range one so when I am only cooking one thing I tend to us the oven setting in the microwave.I don't use the microwave part much.I wouldn't have my Microwave if it was not a combination one (Microwave/Grill/conventional oven).I like things cooked better in a conventional oven.0

Used mine just now to heat up cheese and hummous in a pitta - 30secs melts the cheese. Yummy :drool:
Also use it in the summer (when the Rayburn isn't on) if anyone wants a baked potato - not nearly as nice as ones in the oven, but no point switching that on just for a potato.
Small Penguins use it to heat a mug of milk for hot chocolate.

I find them useful but haven't owned one for about 5 years now. (Living in places with small kitchens!)0

I use mine for making porridge first thing in a morning, use it for starting off jacket spuds, and its brill, for a hot milky drink at bedtimeenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0
