Do you actually use your Microwave??

  • we actually got rid of our microwave a couple of years ago because we only used it for defrosting and baked potatoes. We realised we don't eaked baked spuds that often anyway and didn't like the way the MW started to cook the food during the defrost programme (yuck).

People cannot believe we don't have a microwave now and ask how I heat up my baby bottles and her food - I warm up her milk and food in a pan on the hob - much nicer and still only takes a minute or so.

Also, we have a weekly menu posted on the fridge so know if we need to get something out of the freezer the night before - which means an end to defrosting emergencies.

The gap has made room for our cookbooks!

Ours took up too much workspace, we hardly used it so I chucked it over a year ago. We have not missed it, and were delighted with the extra space :D

Don't use ours very often, mainly for last minute steaming of veg if we're not having boiled potatoes and for defrosting

Yes, I find that my MW starts to cook chicken even on the defrost setting. The middle of a breast can be frozen solid but the edges white and cooked - I don't like this at all. If I was more organised I'd take them out of the freezer the night before but I'm not, sadly, and I have a fussy OH who will only eat what he fancies at the time (hence a 'tea' of 2 bacon sarnies and a cuppa!)

I did without one for about 10 mths when my old one set on fire i thought i would miss it but didnt as i only really used it for defrosting , reheating and sometimes baked potatos for quickness but they taste better done in the oven just take longer. and jam sponges that oh and the kids love.
Had a micro given to me a few weeks ago and again just used for defrosting heating baked beans etc .

I'd need a whopping great big MW to get rid of to make room for my cookbooks :rotfl:

I tried to do without my MW for a while, that was when I realised I needed it for the wheatbag thingy. If anyone can suggest an alternative I'll gladly chuck the MW.

I cook for myself mainly, so I cook 4 portions of something, freeze three of them, and then reheat them in the microwave at a later date. Home made ready meals!
