Amazing how someone can be so obsessed over what is nothing more than a marketing label.
  • If they upped there rating of your hotel would you be happy to pay more?

They havent changed anything about your holiday, nothing at all you are getting exactly what you picked and are paying for

Ah, yes, but they picked it not for the hotel, the facilities or the location, they only picked it because it was in the 'a la carte' brochure :rotfl:

I see the Thomson cheerleeders are out in force.
I don't see what the problem is. I agree entirely with Thomson.
They no longer think this hotel is worthy of the A La Carte tag....neither do I.
But the fact remains that they have changed something about the holiday I booked. They have decided to place it in a lower category and sell it at a lesser price.
Because of 'their' actions, I consider this hotel to be no longer where I wish to spend my holiday. I think I should have the right to cancel.
If you buy a french stick at the bakers and they hand you loaf of bread, would you accept it?
It consists of exactly the same thing! It contains all the exact same ingredients you originally requested!

You know what.....I bet half of you would.......Baaaaaaaa

Hardly, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

What material facts, (you know, real facts not an imaginary category) have changed for YOU to no longer consider the hotel worthy of an 'a la carte' tag? What facilities have been removed, how many bad reviews has it suddenly got, how many stars has it lost, what amenities are you now not getting?

And why, if it's just the fact that they have moved it to another brochure, do you want to cancel it entirely and not just move to another hotel in the 'a la carte' brochure?

Aren't Package holidays are the epitome of the sheep mentality? Baaaaaaaaaaaaa.

It might be better if they let the OP cancel, for the sake of the poor holidaymakers that would have to tolerate him!

OP, you've still not told us what has materially changed about the holiday? The difference between a loaf of bread and a french stick is physical, something tangible. What are the physical changes to your holiday?

Over the years I've had 5 run ins with holiday companies ..................... I will pursue this until I get a satisfactory outcome. I promise you, they'll get sick before I do.

Am I alone in wondering why a professional serial complainer needs to come on an internet forum looking for advice? But given that he did, I'd say get a life.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

Here's a more acccurate analogy: You order and receive a french stick but in the meantime the baker decides to label it as a baquette.

Why does the change need to be material?
I booked this holiday because this hotel had been classed in the 'A La Carte' range by the company I booked it with.
That company does not now feel that this hotel meets the requirements for that range. Why?....I don't know (BTW, neither do you!).

I can only assume that due to customer feedback or a visit from the Thomson inspectors, they have thought 'you know what...this place ain't as good as we thought....let's downgrade it and reduce the price accordingly'.
I'm not a serial complainer BTW, I just like to get what I paid for. I don't allow big companies (or internet forums) to bully me.
I don't know why so many people would allow themselves to be dictated to when they've gone out and worked hard to pay for their holiday.
Like I said, The change does not have to be physical.
Their terms and conditions may well say that there needs to be a 'major' change....but they don't give any examples.
We all know that they will never make a change and admit to it being major.

    Thomson cheerleader? hardly!!

your example is nonsense, What has changed with your holiday? Specifically, not what brochure it was in or the price, specifically what did you book that you arent getting?
