Just go for the BMW E46 M3. All problems solved, does 35mpg on a run, very comfortable and lovely to drive. You can get one in good condition for around £10-11k

Thats really cool but I dont think thats a suitable car for us. I think we would consider 1 series or 320d or 328i .
