Terrible aren't they - makes one proud to be British doesn't it.
With our Royal Family having no connections to that country whatsoever - good English name 'Windsor' or 'Mountbatten'.
At least we didn't think up the concept of concentration camps.
And none of our great statesmen would ever have advocated sterilization of the handicapped and disabled, would they?
Car 54 - Where are you? Not in the real world apparently. :rotfl:
My witticism (possibly not one of my best) was not actually aimed at the German race, but at those who use such slogans as a badge of superiority, whether based on race, religion, football team or their brand of car.
Not you, more the "BMW comrades" mentioned elsewhere. I agree totally with your "I have to laugh at people who give the rest of the world signs of feeling so superior as you give all impressions of being."0 -
Good to read your above post.
I'm glad that we are in agreement.

But because this country can't figure out how to integrate other ethnic minorities into "British culture" as a whole and because people still see them as some sort of animals that must be protected from the big bad white person, they don't have the chance to actually integrate properly with British culture/law/etc.
Second and third generation Asians have integrated with British culture while keeping their own culture.
You see, this attitude of jumping down peoples throats and calling them racist, actually just shows you as racist yourself, because you clearly see them as different, as inferior and in need of constant defence.
Who's "them"?.You're assuming I'm White
If you think they can't stand up for themselves, then you clearly assume that you are superior!!
Psychological projection is the act or technique of defending oneself against unpleasant impulses by denying their existence in oneself, while attributing them to others. For example, a person who is rude may constantly accuse other people of being rude.
This is the last I have to say on the matter, this thread is going to get deleted and I really CBA with arguing with such arrogance.0 -
Wow, this one has progressed since i was last in it last night.
Wonder how it'll progress in the next 24 hours? Maybe we'll be talking about flying cars & stuff? Break out the popcorn.0 -

Perhaps you should consider having some additional lessons - just because you have passed your driving test doesn't mean that you know how to drive ...Philip0 -
Op if your getting out of your car what are you hoping to achieve?
Its a big commitment. You are walking into a confrentation with someone in control of a deadly weapon, not withstanding the fact the vehicle might have people of loose morals/weapons of various nature/many things of a risky nature in them. Getting out of the car escalates things quickly, bang on my windows and I'll show my displeasure. Consider these points next time and be prepared for the consequences.
And as for M3's being capable sure why not. But dont get ideas above your station, I know drivers of all sorts of vehicles including vans that would show you up. Not doing beemer drivers image any good there0 -
For the record, I haven't used my horn in anger, either. I also haven't smashed my video game controller against the wall after losing a game of Pac-Man, or flung my tennis racket at the court after missing a shot.Norman_Castle wrote: »You're assuming that because someone is Asian they were born in another country.
"I explained why many are such poor drivers". Who said many are poor drivers?
And, yes, driving standards in some countries in Asia are far, far lower than in the UK. It's a fact. In Taiwan you don't drive on a real road before getting your driving license. The off-road reverse-around-a-corner and parallel-park tests too difficult for you? You can literally buy your license instead by paying a private company for "lessons" and the documentation that "proves" you have passed the test. On top of that, driving offences are not enforced. You can drive through a red light in plain view of an on-duty police officer, and if you don't have an accident, they don't care. You can have two young children on your scooter without helmets, and the police don't bat an eyelid. It's simply part of the culture. Do some research. This is not unique to Taiwan, either - check out Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, etc. (I haven't driven in Vietnam personally, but I've seen it on the telly!)
I thought Strider590 did a good job of explaining what can be a sensitive subject, but I guess some people get a kick out of screaming "racism" without understanding the issues involved - kind've like burning down a paediatrician's office. There are probably even government statistics available which provide some insight into which UK cities have immigrant populations from which countries - without them, I couldn't go so far as to say Strider590's right with their assessment, but certainly the way it was phrased was about people's culture rather than their genes.
I would go so far to say that Strider590 has probably been to Asia, and Norman Castle has not.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -

But everyone could see that there was chalk dust!0 -
Anyone who thinks that Taiwan, Malaysia and so on are countries where traffic rules go by the board should try Saudi Arabia.
When they first introduced traffic lights, roundabouts and motorway-style junctions the locals were convinced that they were only applicable to us Westerners who 'needed' such things.
The concept of a one-way street was particularly difficult.
They had to run public information films several times a day on local TV in Dammam and even then 'strangers in town' fresh in from the desert hadn't a clue why they were causing mayhem.
Very safe place though - I only ever locked my car when i left it at the airport when I went on leave - and that was only to stop migrant workers sleeping in it.0 -
Actually, the assumption was on your part, where you assumed Strider590 meant they were Asian by ethnicity rather than where they were born and grew up.Strider590 wrote: »They're also bloody terrible drivers, but again this is cultural, driving standards over there are awful, then they come to this country, can't pass their UK driving test and so a friend/family takes it for them. They don't consider this to be "wrong" because to them it's not.I would go so far to say that Strider590 has probably been to Asia
Striders posts in this and past threads have been racist about Asian drivers. Not hatefully or intended to harm, but ignorantly, in the same way he categorises older drivers or drivers of certain cars.0
