I hate to say it, but you've just answered a lot of questions with that one single word.

You see in many Asian cultures, they will smile if they've done something wrong. it's an embarrassed smile. Especially common in India..... A chap I used to work with explained this to me as something he had to "unlearn" when he came to the UK.

They're also bloody terrible drivers, but again this is cultural, driving standards over there are awful, then they come to this country, can't pass their UK driving test and so a friend/family takes it for them. They don't consider this to be "wrong" because to them it's not.

The powers that be love having them here for cheap labour, but they don't love helping them to integrate properly.

You want to try driving around Birmingham, combine a complex road system with people who can't read road signs/markings and it's complete mayhem.

It's not unique to Birmingham though or one culture, some drivers know they have done wrong and will acknowledge with a raised hand. And often that gesture will calm a situation esculating.

Great. Now can you post the link for when your daddy fought his daddy? ;)

I can't, I'm afraid. I won't drag myself any further down the 'Look at me, I'm Billy B1g B4lls' route.

    I've done enough. :)

It is wrong for most cars on the road (moderately powered 2 liter diesels and petrol's and everything below) to try and overtake because they simply do not have the power to do so in a quick enough time.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Most people don't need an M3 to overtake safely.

Picture of your car in one hand, tool in the other?.

Ignorant racism. I live in Birmingham and share the roads daily with Asian drivers. They are no better or worse than any other race or culture.
What happened?. Out of your depth driving in Birmingham you had another dispute with a driver who happened to be Asian. Did you film it?.

The BMW M3 is undoubtedly a great car and can overtake when almost any opportunity arises - safely using a space that many/most other vehicles could not even think of using.

Unfortunately there are a few M3 owners who have such an inflated sense of their own importance that they think that overtaking by lesser vehicles should not be allowed.

Such arrogance unfortunately rubs off on all BMW owners in the eyes of the general public.

Please do not assume that all BMW owners - or M3 owners think like darkmatter 101. He is not representative.

If darkmatter101 was to post his opinions on many BMW forums he would be severely criticised for his attitude there too.

I agree - there have been too many generalizations in this thread.

Rastafarians, gypsies, and Asians have all had a beating from some posters.

We do not need that kind of intolerance on MSE forums.

I regularly safely overtake other vehicles in my DIESEL (yes, dirty, smelly diesel) Volvo ESTATE, perfectly safely and without incident.

I can't imagine how offended he'd be to learn that I often overtake cars in my little VW Up with it's 1.0 litre three pot engine and a heady 74hp.

I can safely report that nobody has died yet, in fact, there haven't even been any near misses. I think I'm beginning to see a flaw in his logic.

    .

Really??? I've been known to overtake on single carriageway in a 746cc, 30BHP, Daf before now. Perfectly safely, and without even alarming anyone (used to get some surprised looks, mind you :D )

Same goes for my old Triumph 1300 (1969, 63BHP from the factory) and my current Pug 405 2 litre diesel. The diesel has more than enough performance to overtake with!

I may have slightly held up the odd M3 (and similar) driver who was behind me and also wanting to pass, but if they're too slow to assess and react to the chance as quickly as me then that's really not my fault when I'm in front ;)

Out of interest, why do you think that driving in Birmingham is "deeper" than driving anywhere else in the country?

Personally, I've always found it much sketchier driving in Birmingham and London - and have always thought the higher percentages of foreign drivers play a role. Apparently that's just ignorant racism, so why do you think people drive so much worse in large cities?
  • I'm sorry but overtaking in a 1 litre VW Up, or an old rubbish DAF/Triumph is just dangerous. Joe Horner I can assure you that you will never be able to overtake my M3 even if I were driving at a leisurely pace to only 3k rpm and you're highly mistaken if you even think that the M3 you overtook was even trying.

Iceweasel I am an active member of 'M3forum' and 'M3cutters' as well as 'BMW Land' and 'Bimmer Forums.' I also attend annual M3 shows where myself and my fellow BMW M3 comrades from all generations (e30, e36, e46 etc) as well as the M5's come together to show off our cars. I would agree that a lot of members from 'BMW Land' and 'Bimmer forums' would criticise me for my words, however, you tend to find that the people criticizing are those who have the 4 cylinder entry level BMW's such as the 118d, 320d, 318i's etc. They are not real BMW enthusiasts and simply buy the car for it's badge prestige.
BUT come on the M3 forums and you will find that they all pretty much hold similar beliefs to myself. We do respect the non-M 6 cylinder BMW's but anything below no, and trying to overtake in any low powered Fiat or Ford should be made illegal.
