    Hi,
    Can anyone advise me....

I am expecting a special delivery parcel to arrive. This was sent from Perth (Scotland) on Monday (30th) morning and is due to arrive in Bath, South west UK. I know they cannot guarantee next day delivery, but this is now 3 days. It is a very valuable item and the tracking details just say "this item is progressing theough our network for delivery". I know it says there is unofficial strike action in Scotland, but does that mean the item won't have even left the post office yet? I think it is appalling for these special deliveries (and everything else) to suffer when money has been paid for quick delivery. Can we claim compensation for this?

kitty, we in Aberdeen didn't get any post on Tuesday (or today) and I think there was a collecting strike on the Monday so it's possible that your parcel is still where it was posted...

I'm fed up. Thanks to RM, I got my wages cheque a day late, a Direct Debit bounced in my account and so I'll be getting ANOTHER £30 charge next month.......

This is just it though isn't it. Everyone else suffers because some bloke at the union can't get their own way. Pathetic!! The thing is, people will start, for example, to pay their bills electrocically and when there is no mail to sort there will be no jobs. Hurrah I say, serves them all right!!
  • Blue monkey you sound very bitter indeed you obviously don't know the full facts of the industrial action, you really should look into things before putting your very biased opinion in writing.By the way your not the chairman of Royal mail are you as you sound like adam crozier.

Just to let you know that UK is the only country in europe that has opened it's mail market to competion the other countries were going to open their markets in 2008 but now they have put that back another few years as they can see what it's doing to us.

USA tried privatising a few years back but realised what a big mistake and reverted back to the way it was in the first place.

dhl, tnt, and all the other companies are cherry picking the most profitable bits of the market and letting Royal mail deliver the junk mail you call to your doors.Royal mail are not by law allowed to lower their prices to beat this competion that's the truth they are delivering every letter at a loss and deuche post know this and are willing to lose money themselves 4 billion to bleed Royal mail dry over years if need be!!!
Royal mail can't do this in europe because they will not open up their postal markets because they know it would be a mistake to do so!!

When one day you have to post something Blue monkey and royal mail as you know it now is not here, you'll know about it as it will be a lot more expensive and that'll definatley make you moan a lot more and lose more of that money your trying to save.

    LOL, yeah right, of course.

To be honest, I pay for my service and I have to pay the full price and I do not get the service I have paid for. As I said before, if you don't like your job then go find another. I do not get a reduction when it takes 5 times longer for my mail to get to it's destination. No one cares how important it is that I am able to make a living and you say I am bitter. Funniest thing i have heard for moths.

The posties job is to deliver and sort the email. I am very annoyed that my business is being ruined by the strike actions and rightly so, times are changing and I could not care less what it is about in all honestly, if I pay for a service then I expect that service. If I could take my services elsewhere then I would. When I have a parcel to send I will use a courier service - every time something I have bought has been delivered by Royal Mail it has arrived smashed and I do not trust them anything that is breakable now. Unfortunatley I sell small items, it's too expensive for me to use a courier but if I had the choice them I would. That what competition is about, if you think Rm has the best service then you stick to it - if not you go elsewhere. There is more than one supermarket - you have a choice of where to shop, where to get your electric from, where to get your Gas from, who to buy your house from, why not who sends your mail?

Why should we have to put up wth a 2nd rate service just because the RM are jealous of who gets the best and most business. Boo Hoo, toys out of the pram. Other people in my business get their pick of the best things to sell and at the best prices because they can, that is tough on my part but I make sure my customer service makes up for this and that my customers are happy to come back and shop with me. whether they get the items they want on time though is another matter.

If you don't like the way your company is moving forward then you leave and get a job elsewhere. That's my opinion and I am sticking to it! Thanks!! And no I don't care who is getting the best mail delivery. Do you even realise how childish it sounds that you sre atriking because someone gets the better deal. I supposed we should be laughing. But doesn't the RM need to update their equipment so they can get the bestter work back and then does this not mean they can't pay staff and update the equipment. So you prefer that the staff get more money and not updated equipment but then the other companies have better facilities to deal with the sorting of the mail, because they have the facilities too. Or do you want everything and will stamp your feet until you get it - and no one is allowed to disagree or else you have another tantrum. One day, if I want to post smething and the RM is not there I will use another company if the prices go up then so will my price that I charge my customer, it is not coming from my pocket - if my prices go up then so will everyone elses so it does not affect me in the slightest really. I don't really send letters these days - I prefer to use Bank Transfers and emails!!

How dare the staff of a company I am paying to do something for me - as their service tell me it should be - down tools and leave customers in the lurch whenever they damn well feel like it.

Special Delivery not arriving for 3 days. Hardly a great service, City Link could have done that next for £4 (and that is what my last company used to pay them per drop for next day delivery under 5kgs!). The point is that people will find other options and when there is hardly any post to deliver the Union will soon be up in arms about people losing their jobs. As I said, I don't give a minkeys what the strike action is about, if there was another service I would use it - but the RM know that for smaller mail there is no other service so they can do as they damn well please, stuff everyone else and what might be happening to them. Are they going to be paying the above posted bank charges? No, thought not, as I said they do not care about the consequences of stiking and how it might be affecting people who have money in the mail, people who need money to live on, so why should anyone else give a stuff about them??

I say - Pick your toys up, get back to work and do the job that we, the public, are paying them to do because we HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE on who delivers our mail - at the moment!!

If Items were dispatched via Special Delivery on Tuesday 31st were they Guaranteed delivery on Wednesday 1st?

If so, has someone copied that information off the Royal Mail website?

The strike is affecting different areas in different ways. My post here in London has been fragmented, even on days where there are supposedly no strikes, but my son in Kent reckons his post has never been as good.

My post is often not good though as I am on the end of a walk so if the postie runs out of time I get no post as there was a local problem with no overtime being paid.

As for sending stuff out, I'm still using my local PO (the crown one has also been subjected to strikes so I don't chance going there) but I have no idea how long my stuff is taking too arrive.

Apparently this is justified because they don't want any competition so have decided not to do hardly any work until they get their own way - see post #35 from Leachy!! I bet you wish you had a job like that!!
