Just thought I would drop a note in for you avid sellers, new strike action will take place from 25th July 2007 for two whole weeks. So you will more than likely experience a lack of customers unless you use a courier.
Hope this is of use to everybody as I would not want you wasting money listing things if you going to be disrupted by postal service.

Sorry, I could'nt make head nor tail of that so I thiink I'll stop ebaying for a while. Whilst a dvd will last in the post my plants wouldn't.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Thanks to the OP for being kind and alerting us to this; the BBC website make it a bit clearer still - disruption big time!
A two-week campaign of staggered strike action across the UK postal service has been announced by union officials.
The rolling programme of walk-outs, to begin on Wednesday 25 July, will affect every aspect of the Royal Mail. It follows two earlier 24-hour strikes.
The strikes will see each section of the company from the sorting and collection centres to those involved with making the deliveries walking out on two separate 24-hour strikes over two weeks.
With each division allocated a different day to strike, the action is designed to create continuous disruption to the UK's postal service over that period.0 -
the bloody cheek of it
i wonder if theyll require some freelance postmen then.. :Pcomping sporadically since 14.07.07

Can anyone recommend a courier for small parcels?0
-
Well im still waiting for a parcel that was posted on the
9/7/07. No hope of it turning up now.
Personally I think striking will do the RM more harm than good. People will find an alternative way to get their things to their destination & if they provide a better service, they may not return to the hit & miss service that RM provides.0 -
This is the sort of action which allowed the British Car and Motorcycle industries rise to the heady heights they are at now.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

So what is everyone going to do carry on, find alernative, or stop during action?0
-
We have to carry on selling but I'm looking into a courier...
Not impressed with Royal Mail.:mad:0 -
I am training an elite squadron of courier pigeons to deliver my packages. Not sure how they are going to cope with that chest of drawers though.
To the strikers I'd just like to say !!!!!!! If only I had a job where millions relied on me for their income. Maybe I could blackmail my way to a better payrise too.
Edit: I like this bit on the BBC report:One of the initiatives it is fiercely opposing is the use of more automation in sorting post, which is currently one of the duties of postal delivery staff before setting off on their rounds.:www: :: MFi3 ::
Original mortgage free date ~ January 2030
Current mortgage free date ~ July 20280 -
Companies shouldn't be allowed to do this sort of thing to bring the country to a standstill.
Next thing is that the Royal Mail will want a postage price hike to cover the losses!0
