something was amiss with my nationwide one and it never worked so used another and never bothered to get it fixed. one day I forgot and tried to place an order and it did the 'verify by visa thing' and then just goes through, now it works without verified.

suits me dandy. i hate the added security thing. JUST LET ME SHOP!!
  • I will admit that VbV is the password I forget the most, lol. One more password does not equal more security, as I am sure many people that are simply fed up of having to remember so many, will just succumb to using the same password they use for so many other websites.

ps I just realised what was different to yesterday-just before the successful purchase, I had turned adblockplus off in firefox, as brewerdave mentions might have caused issues. It doesn't make sense if that was the sole reason for anything now being able to get through though, since I was given the message that VbV was blocked. Im sure many panic in needing to complete that purchase and ending up phoning 0870.. but if it really is only blocked for a temporary period, they should say so, but then, thats how they make money out of people
  • I had a similar problem, VbV insisted my correct info was wrong. I accidentally found the following site, RE-registered my card, and now it's all good. Give it a try:

Okay, now as a new user, this won't let me post the link for you guys. Chrissakes, try to solve a problem for folks that you've had to deal with yourself for God knows how long....

OK, as of today, if you Google "Verified by Visa", check the 2nd entry on the page: it should be an address that is a "dot com" followed by a slash and "aam" with another slash. That's where you want to go to fix this giant annoyance.

It's their secure site that takes you through the whole registration process. I had some misgivings, but then went to a site that I could not previously used, and it worked fine. So it's legit. Good Luck!:)

Verified by Visa is next to useless IMO. Appears for virtually every purchase I make. Enter the password I entered last time I purchased and it says its not recognised. Press Recover password which then asks me for some card details, name and dob, new password which I then need to write down for next time and purchase goes through. All of this info should be fairly easy for someone to get if I lost my card. And it appears on a popup iframe not directly associated with the bank or transaction provider - which is a security risk in itself. Where's the security? Confused.....
  • I have a Nationwide account, with a credit card attached. I have had problems with `Verified by VISA' (VbV) before, but thought I had sorted them. I tried to purchase a Kitchen Appliance from Currys using my card today and got a VbV refusal and a `call this number'. This number then gave me a string of telephone options, at which point I put the phone down. I then went on the web to find the VbV web page, which is completely useless. I then tried to contact Nationwide via Secure Messaging, only to find that they too have put in a myriad different `menu' items, none of which seemed relevant to this issue. I have on the third try managed to send a message somehow to Nationwide, so we shall see, but I usually don't find these days that Nationwide is that clued up either. Hopeless all round ?? The good news - my Co-Op card worked !

This verified by Visa system is one of the reasons I use an Amex card on every site that accepts it. They don't have any system like Verified by Visa, so it just goes straight through. A lot less hassle and one less password to remember.

It's dated 2010, and I've never been prompted to use it. So I guess not launched on all their cards.
  • Just tried to do an online order via Sainso's, like I do every month, and VbV has failed. Tried resetting my password, apparently my DoB is wrong! Tried loading a different web bowser too, still nothing. Tried a different card, still nothing. Stoopid system!

I'm sorry but the Verified by visa and the mastercard secure code service is totally unacceptable.

I have written down and actually taken pictures of my password over 10 times this past year so as to not forget the code, but each attempt at inputting the correct details - it declines it and eventually i have to attempt to reset the code, and even then it does not accept my correct DOB details.

A normal one minute transaction is now taking me over an hour. Just now for example - I wanted to book cinema tickets at an imax. This theoretically would have taken me 2 minutes max.

I have just wasted an hour and half on the phone to my card provider and then I called securecode directly.

I have filed numerous complaints at this abysmal security service which actually detracts away from making an online purchase. It is bizarre and I am extremely irritated having to waste hours of my time by calling to reset it.

This have made it compulsory and I have not been given any options to opt in or opt out.

Having spoke to mastercard securecode directly, they have elucidated the fact that it is a service they offer - but the ultimate decision on whether the service is implemented or not lays with the financial institution/bank who hold the authority for opting in or out.

So it is the actual financial institutions and banks who enforce its use.

I have had enough. It is unacceptable and something needs to be done. I have NEVER had any such problems with any of my other online banking passwords/codes and security measures.

It is just the verified by visa and the mastercard securecode.

To make matters worse - it keeps a history of ALL your saved passwords that you have used in the past - and if you do ever get around to managing to resetting you password - you cannot use any of the passwords you have used previously - you are forced to make a new one.

I hate this service. It is an absolutely disgusting hindrance and I cannot believe I am forced to comply with its use.
