Facebook and holidays

  • I put a few holiday snaps on my timeline when I come home but thats it. I see all sorts of crap on other peoples timelines, duck pout selfies every 2 mins, a few holiday photos of mine on my own timeline, well Id rather put them up than various other pics I could post. But as someone else said earlier, you can set your settings so that if anyone tags you, you have to approve it before it appears on your timeline.

Yes but they can still write their name.

I'm not sure how FB friends knowing is hugely different to friends of randomly family members, the postie or hairdresser. The milk man is the prime suspect!!

I wouldn't be happy at all. I wouldn't be thinking about the possibility of being burgled, it's just that I don't ever put photos of myself on there. I only have I think 3 photos and they are all of my dog!

  • Thanks again for all your replies...I will have a word with her about the situation, nothing major, I don't want to fall out, she can be quite dizzy about stuff but sometimes it can be quite annoying if it's an important issue like this which has been discussed more than once, she is lucky she hasn't been in our position and I'm sure she would feel the same as us if she had so I just want her to put herself in our shoes that's all...we had a fab holiday otherwise!

I would not be happy. I think Facebook has a use but if you specifically asked her not to put a photo on Facebook and she did, then she was not taking into account what you had asked. She could have just cropped the photo and put herself on and avoided any comeback.

I really don't see the point of accepting friends to then be worried that you could be burgled because of one of them. Don't you tell any of your friends that you are about to go away? Most burglaries are opportunistic much more likely to be someone noticing no movement, lights on etc....

My view is if you are concerned about the potential consequences of being on Facebook don't go on it just resort to emails to communicate.

Ive not long come back from a few days away in Cornwall. For the first time ever ive not mentioned it on here, not mentioned it on Facebook.

Was I scared of being burgled? No! I just didn't want news getting round to my youngest sons friends. He'd been given strict instructions to not have a 'party' in our absence (mean I know). I didn't tell people on here because I didn't want the risk of people I am 'friends' with on MSE posting anything on my Timeline.

If you made a specific request which was ignored then I'd be annoyed, and I'd question it with her.

As for tagging, my account is set up so that I have to approve them. My SIL is the sort of person who posts every single photo that she takes, regardless of whether it's blurred, cut off your head, or if you have your eyes closed. So when she tags me I make sure that I vet each picture so that only the good ones appear.
  • why anybody would announce on facebook that they are on holiday baffles me,there was always suspicion that airport staff were taking addresses off luggage tags and passing them on to their dodgy mates!Posting this information on facebook is akin to putting a sign in your window saying "EMPTY HOUSE".Can see the day when insurance companies start looking on these claims in the same way as car thefts when people leave the keys in the ignition ie no payout!!
