    Get a grip, malchish.

"Outrageous and horrifying" is not that Natwest might mistakingly perhaps charge a wealthy customer for all of £12.

Outrageous and horrifying is if yet another innocent journalist gets his head chopped off. Horryfing is that a million people fled war in Ukraine. The ebola virus is horrifying. The story about little Aysha is horrifying. Horrifying is that we still have a war going on between Israel and Palestine.

Thousands of events in this world are a million miles more horrifying than a wealthy current account holder having to figure out a minor mistake with a bank. You really do need a reality check.

Well said - Malchish really needs to get a bit of perspective.

  • :T - Archi Bald. Completely agree. There are problems and there is witless trivia. Then there is Malchish (and possibly his "over 900" grateful disciples; though I guess it's "over 901" now).
  • 99 thanks seems a very low thanks count for someone that has so many avid followers that have saved so much thanks to him ;)

It's a fantasy - he's been called out on it a number of times before.

I believe the BMW and Monet buying was said tongue-in-cheek.

    Here's my thoughts.

Although banks are open to the public for extended hours, most of the banking computer systems are quite ancient, and are based on processing times in an old style 9 - 5 Monday to Friday world.

Therefore, as the cash was paid in after 5pm on a Friday, the transaction was not FULLY processed until the next traditional working day (I know the transaction appeared on his ATM slip, but I'm talking about banking systems, not what is shown on customer facing information.)

The next FULL working day was Monday.

I imagine the credit card was paid by Faster Payment, a more modern system, for the 24/7 world.

When overnight processing happened, the system couldn't 'see' the cash paid into the account until Monday, making it look like the account was overdrawn for two days, hence the letter they sent.

If this is the case, then yes, it it is an annoying glitch, and the bank will hold their hands up and refund the fee and probably make a small goodwill payment too.

But there's no greedy bank conspiracy theory going on, or any outrage and horror. Just outdated computer systems.

This glitch probably doesn't come to light very often, as most people don't pay cash into their account on a Friday night, and draw it out again less than 30 minutes later - that is not normal customer behaviour.

This is exactly what happened. I never alleged conspiracy on the part of the bank, m but this is a shameful, shameful mistake, and the customer had to waste a work time to resolve this - to ring Natwest, check all the data etc.

This is a pretty normal customer behqvious for a wealthy person - they do not live salary to salary and their deposit/withdrawal pattern is more unusual/creative.

This is not a normal behaviour for a bank - it is a disastrous glitch. However, compensation has been provided swiftly.

The moral of mmy thread, therefore, for the consumer, is: if a bank wasted your time by their crazy glitches, make you you demand compensation for your wasted time.

A reputable bank will be apologetic and horrified at the mistake :(, and will make you happy.
I non-reputable could be taken to a small claims court just very simply - they will settle.
Bu if you do not ask - you do not get.

Some of the "full-time" posters on here tried very hard throughout the thread to descredit everything and to discourage consumers from battling to achieve the best outcome. This is the full-timers' full time job, but consumers- to not be disheartened. Demand what you are due if a company messed up - and you will get what you want.

Regarding Natwest I can say that they acted honourably and can be trusted as a customer service team.
  • By the way, "thanks" against my name are all real, not like trolls thanking each other every post :) I was not thanked by a single troll, which is really nice.

Success again. This time the company was cooperative and quick, this is no "furniture village".
