  • Morning everyone.

Stayed on plan yesterday, won't bore you with my menu as they are really quite samey!

PLeased to report -2lb today. Got my (virtual) 2 stone award.

Thought I'd show you my breakfast for today. One of my favourites - fruit (nectarine, strawberries, raspberries, green grapes and banana) with fat free Greek yoghurt, a couple of spoons of flaked almonds (B choice) and a (generous) drizzle of honey (2.5). Absolutely delicious. Sorry for the super large pic - no idea how to resize!

    Morning,

I need some advice pls, I'm pretty upset.
I've had my bloodpressure checked yesterday after 6 months. It was really high (I always measure very high in the surgery) and I'm on the waiting list to get a monitor at home again for a week.

Now in those 6 months, I have lost a stone, nearly gave up all diet coke and coffee, increased my exercise but obviously it's not enough.

The nurse was not interested at all and very abrupt.

With that and my family totally p*ssing me off last night, I ate my way through a bag of maltesers, half a packet of pink biscuits, toast etc

Now in the light of day, I have to stop feeling sorry for myself and do something about this bloodpressure but what? Loose more weight and more exercise, I know but are certain foods better in lowering blood pressure? Any suggestions?

I do eat lots of veg and good things, my cholesterol is good

Hugs mumoftwo. I don't know where you've got to with your weight loss, but that stone loss will already be helping. I'm sorry the nurse wasn't more helpful and making some suggestions.

Other than lose more weight (assuming that you still have some spare) then I don't have any bright ideas but hopefully someone else will. The SW diet will be doing you good because it's low fat.

Some people do just have higher bp generally and they might want to suggest medication (my mum was on it for years), but it may also be that being in the surgery and worrying about it is making it worse so the home test will be really useful.

And yes, I did see some far more useful (to most of us) stone threads on minimims! Off to get me and baby dressed and go to playgroup but I'll have a look later. Mind you, my current plan when I get beneath the next stone (currently 6lb above) is to go to pizza hut as a reward :o

  • Hi, foods to lower blood pressure include bananas and tomatoes. These are packed with potassium which works to stabilise BP. You can google for other ones. Most processed foods are salt laden including some yogurts so be aware of that as it is the main culprit. Exercise is key as well. It doesn't need to be high impact or running for miles, regular gentle walks will help and it is good for weightless too - key is REGULAR!
Enough of the lecture from matron midge!!
    Today's menu
    HEa milk
HE b 35 g choc caramel shreddies (new HE b)
B shreddies - really nice but v small portion banana
    L ham salad and mullerlight
D veg casserole packed with sf veg and lentils family having it with crusty bread and aunt Bessie dumplings 8 syns each so migh have one and forgo the bread
I'm painting the hall and stairs at the moment so counting that as my BMW but will be off with dogs for an hour later. Have a good day.

My blood pressure goes up when I have to go to the doctor's surgery. I usually have steam coming out of my ears as well, but that's down to a pure hatred of everything about the place and not a medical condition. However, not meaning to make light of your post I wanted to mention that since I got a home BP kit from the chemist for £15 my BP is always spot on or better. I haven't got high BP though so the DIY version is fine for me, but doing it yourself at home might at least give you a bit of peace and will provide you with a ball park figure to work with. Alternatively, have you thought of going to the chemist and asking them to take it - it's free as far as I know, and your result might be kinder if you feel less hassled by so-called professionals.

Thanks for the advice, lovely peeps, I really appreciate it.

I still have about 11 st to lose, so it's my own fault. I also have a stressful life. My bloodpressure was 206/? The third time it had come down to 192, extremely high. The home readings will tell the truth more though.

Good thing I already eat bananas and tomatoes. Beetroot is meant to be good too. I'll just plod on, worse thing I can do is sod it and give up, lol

Kiwisaver, have you tried the cauliflower raw?? It's a completely different taste to when it's cooked.

Now you mention it I expect I might have had some as crudit!s heavily coated with some monumentally fattening dip. I might be brave and try some.

I don't like cauliflower much either, but I used to eat it raw and quite enjoy it. My mum would keep a floret or two uncooked to make sure I'd have some with my dinner! Never minded it in a rich cheese sauce though :o

Same here, I can put up with most things if smothered in hot melted cheese but best I hold onto those thoughts. :D

    Today I had...

    B. Greek Yoghurt (1) and Frozen Strawbs
    L. Last of the boiled bacon and pod of cream cheese (2) sandwich (hexb) with bowl of salad and coleslaw (1 mayo).
    D. HM Pasta kinda bake thing with bacon, tinned toms, onions, carrots, peppers and mushrooms with teensy sprinkle of grated cheese on top (guessing 3)
Snacks: Satsuma and maybe an apple (can't remember if I ate it or not :rotfl:).

I'm exactly the same as slimwriter, mumoftwo.. it's high when i'm at the doctors (even though thte nurse is lovely!) but when i test at home i'm normal.. hopefully the 24 hour monitor will show that you're ok.

I think decreasing your salt intake may help, i'm trying to do that anyway - i've bought some lo-salt that is lower in sodium, higher in potassium - it was sainsburys own version 90p for a tub..

I think you're on the right track, keep going :j:j:j <-- cheerleaders for you

Shala - That sounds like a great day for your own challenge!!:T And great that the OH is so willing to get involved. Where do you find one like that??

He's lost 6 stone in the last few years and it's slowly creeping back on so he wants to get a handle on it now rather than later :D

unfortunately we're both like food junkies, once one of us gets it in our head we want pizza, cookies etc we have to have it .. it would be easier if one of us was naturally health conscious to keep the other on track but it's not to be :(

Glad to see your week has got a bit happier... :D
