Mortgage offer not arrived in the post yet. We've touched base with the solicitor to get the ball rolling who told us they would send an email this morning. No email! We were hoping to complete fairly quickly as there's no chain at all.
  • Following this as we have our mortgage offer with the halifax and are awaiting exchange/completion in 2-3 weeks. However husband took out extra debt on an existing card last month so now I'm waiting for them to withdraw the offer. Too many horror stories read I think!!

I'm sure it will all be ok. I believe they only check a % of cases from what I've read and even if yours is one of them, unless it severely hinders your affordability, I doubt you'd have a problem.
  • Fingers crossed and all that.

Did anyone else find actually getting a mortgage advisor that stayed in the same position a nightmare with the halifax?? Ours changed about 5 times.

We used a broker for that very reason! When we bought our first home 6 years ago, I suffered with panic attacks with the whole mortgage process. It took 2 months from having an offer accepted to receiving a mortgage offer and we didn't complete for a further 3 months. There was no chain!

So far this process has been a lot smoother with a broker.

I've had my mortgage offer nearly 2 weeks now and my solicitor has not started nothing! Why?? Because be can not request searches etc until he receives a draft copy of the contract from the vendors solicitors which they haven't sent across yet! The last 2 weeks have been a total waste. I thought we would complete by October as there are no chains but it's looking doubtful...

Just read your other thread. I don't know how many applications the halifax re check on completion but I've heard if 3 months have passed from the offer being issued to your completion they will run a routine credit check to see if everything in order. Don't hold me to that though..

Hope it all goes smoothly for you. This is one of the most stressful things I have done ever!!!

    Halifax is a live system.

As each piece of data is added, or as something changes, the system re-scores the case as you leave.

Once it has been offered, 1 in 12 cases are pulled for routine audit and subject to increased scrutiny of the documentation to ensure it is all acceptable.

What do you mean it re scores the case as you leave??

As you save and exit the case, it goes through the decisioning process again.
