  • Morning all.
I am on holibobs this week, unfortunately I'm awake far earlier than planned because OH forgot to turn his alarms off. He's snoring away happily again!

I haven't had any UUs to report but did have an NPI yesterday. The adverts for birchbox keep popping up on my facebook feed and I got halfway through the sign up process before I stopped myself. I'm not even all that enthralled with the contents of the September box! Ah well, crisis averted!

I've got lots to do whilst we're on holiday this week. Very excited that a new boutique is going to be stocking my jewellery on a rent a shelf basis, and opening just in time for christmas!!

    I have a uu

Boots No7 Body Butter - This is sadly the last of several pots, I only ever buy this on a 3 for 2 with a voucher as well but as I don't buy much now I don't get the vouchers. It is expensive but I really love it. WBA.

Happy anniversary Valm. Did you have something nice planned?

Thanks Fiasco and everyone else for the well wishes. We went out for dinner to an Italian restaurant that MrM used to visit a lot in our younger days (before Emma and even before marraige I think). The decor in the place and the menu had not changed in 20 years however unfortunately we felt overdressed as 1) the place was full of young families and 2) everyone bar another couple were dressed casually. The food was as good as we remembered except that they filled half the plate with salad (hate this!!) and the service was pretty awful with us having to ask to order our drinks and then asking again to order our food. Never mind, just wont' go for another 20 years or so :rotfl:
We have a lady in our local Tesco who positions her 2 children right in front of the reduced counter, gives them instructions and they hand everything to her straight into her trolley. No one can get a look in without getting too close to the kids or reaching past them, so being polite, no one does. I have actually walked into Tesco at 3pm on a Sunday and seen the kids stationed there waiting for 'the man with the gun', while mum reads the magazines.

It's a shame it's not a real gun in these instances isn't it? :rotfl:We have people in our local ASDA who position their trolley right across the display so you can't get near!

Anyway, move over on the naughty step. I was doing so well - got to the 27th day and I hadn't bought anything.

Went to the Trafford Centre again on Saturday as we are at a family church wedding next Saturday and Emma didn't have a dress to wear. Whilst in Debenhams MrM visited the Elemis counter to get some shave cream. There was 10% to begin with and then the SA said with a purchase of two items the GWP was three travel sizes of Cleansing Balm, Pro Intense Lift Effect serum and Tri-Enzyme Quartz Mask. With three purchases you got these plus a full sized Papaya Enzyme Peel.

    So I came away with:-

    Sensitive Shave Gel (needed)
Lime Blossom Balancing Cleanser (will be needed as Emma is using this too)
Lime and Ginger shower gel (bought to make the third item and was cheapest item I can buy - not that I need shower gel (hence the naughty step) however tried it last night and it is lovely)

    GWP:-
Cleansing Balm (not a huge fan of and have other cleansers!)
Pro Intense Lift Effect Serum (will look forward to giving this a go)
Tri-Enzyme Quartz Mask (will try this but haven not got on with any of the other items that I have tried from this range)
Papaya Enzyme Peel (love this and am just about to open my last facial exfoliator).

So was it all worth it? Probably not! x Haven't seen the naughty step for a while though so let's see if the decor has changed and whether the service is any good. :rotfl:

Before October even begins I am going to mention now that I am planning to go to the Preview Evening at Boots on Thursday (1st) and am planning to order the essentials kit from LE this month as they are including 200ml of C&P and a full sized body cream (which I love).
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

  • A couple of UU's up this week, followed up of course with some IN's!

    UU's
    • Pantene keratin repair split end fuser – Probably WNBA, didn't really see any difference to the ends of my hair
•The Emu Oil Well Moisturising Eye Cream –!WNBA, I did like this, but feel that eye creams are a bit unnecessary at the moment.

    IN's
    • Cien Hydrating hand cream x 2 – nearly out of btw hand creams (work and home) so thought I;d get some cheapies ready to replace them
    • Macadamia oil hair mask – another Lidl special! used last night and seems nice. Cheap too!
    No more goo hoarding!

  • I have TA 12 makeup items which had been knocking about my dresser for years. Many are so old the brand has been rubbed away it I won't list them.

Today though I am going on the naughty step. I've developed an itchy scalp and after months of trying to do with my stash of shampoos I am giving in and buying a bottle of Head and Shoulders.

  • Hi everyone! Well done Pickle on graduating! Other than my birchbox and essentials like skin care / shampoo / conditioner / toothpaste, I haven't had to purchase anything this year thanks to all the christmas and birthday presents! I'm now on my last body scrub and have one more shower gel and 3 more body butters in the stash. These should be gone just in time for the influx of gifts at Christmas again! However, have had a flurry of UU's this weekend which will necessitate a trip to boots soon:

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair 50ml - This is HG and will go and repurchase on my way home. This was the old formula but I do prefer the newer one. Will only get a 30ml one and then hopefully pick up a 50 or 100ml in duty free in December, which would last me most of next year.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance - Another HG! Lasted me ages and I never get the separation some people complain about.

Urban Decay Primer Potion - This was a free sample that came with my naked palette a couple of years ago and had actually dried up despite me not opening it. Have moved on to a sample of Benefit Don'[t stray that came with a birch box earlier in the year. So far so good but will be buying the TFSI asap.

TBS Shea Body Scrub - Lovely salt scrub but left so much oily residue on my skin I didn't feel clean. Plus the salt dissolved before I could get a proper scrub from it. Now using the blueberry one but may try making my own when this is finished.

Also I lost an eyeliner at the weekend (Rimmel Nude Scandle eyes) - it fell down the back of the radiator and has just disappeared. Will probably just buy another one as it was almost gone anyway.

Oh and I've had to stop using the FAB radiance pads as my skin was breaking out so much more than usual. Have gone back to the routine I was using and everything seems to be a lot better at the moment. The spots are still there but they aren't multiplying anymore and they seem a lot calmer. Might just use them once a week from now on rather than once a day.

  • Hello again, been a bit busy and very little news. Not buying, just using.

Thanks for the mention Trudi, re brushing hair before shampooing, I always do this even though my hair is shorter now. Detangling and washing hair as if it was a piece of cloth, with minimal lather, economises on shampoo.
As you know from FB, Trudi, I am so happy for you and the baby. :j:j:j:jThis is so right. I can remember your musings on parenthood, thinking that you had it spot on and now you get to put it all into practice!

I have sort of graduated but think I will leave the official decision for another month or two as I don't want to say goodbye just yet.

Plus this is Pickles' time! Congratulations on getting it all under control. :money:

I have a little bit of spare cash at the moment, but I no longer need to buy toiletries or to try the latest scent, variant, whatever. I like what I'm using at the moment and when those items are UU'd I know what I will buy to replace them.

I managed to get my eating of treat foods well under control too and have been losing a few pounds each month since April. I couldn't weigh myself at my heaviest, I just didn't want to know, but I suspect I am now at least 30lbs lighter. I was size 18/20, now it's 16/18. Arthritis hurts a bit less as a result.

Last year I decided to 'relax' over Christmas and the weight I had lost since the summer piled back on. It won't happen again. I bought some chilled desserts the other week, and they were so sweet and sickly.

I think it's all related - the calorific foods and excess toiletries, I would feel that I deserved a little treat and in the trolley would go a shower gel in a scent I fancied, a conditioner that was on offer or a bar of chocolate.

I used up my pink candle items a long time ago, although I did set aside some Christmassy shower gel for use this Christmas season, so that I'm not tempted by seasonal spicy scents that I will still be using at Easter.

Waffly post...! :oSee you next month and for a little bit longer. :D

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend, belated congratulations to VALM and sorry to hear your night out was a bt disappointing.

SmarterNotHarder - I would never have dreamed of using bubble bath as shower gel before joining this challenge, now I don't give it a second thought - it's the only way for me to get through bubble bath and there really is no discernible difference.

    I have UUs:

27/237. Simple Kind To Skin Facial Cleansing Wipes x 7 - freebie and WNB, I use these only for convenience and preer the Boots ones when I do purchase.

28/238. Sanctuary Relx Coccooning Body Butter 100ml - HG and lots more stashed. Gorgeous scent and consistency.

29/239. Punch Studio Cranberry Soap - gifted and WNB, it was nice enough but I prefer liquid hand soap.

ETA: keep forgetting to post my freebie INs!

    10-11/200-201. Vichy Idealia Life Serum 1.5ml x 2
    12-13/202-203. Vichy Idealia Eyes 1.5ml x 2

Love the serum so looking forward to trying the eye cream. Working away for a couple of days this week so will dig out some sachets to take.

New bathroom being installed as we speak, so herein starts two+ weeks of chaos and showers at the gym! Looking forward to lots of storage space for my stash once complete though ;)

  • ETA - What's everone's opinions on using bubble bath as shower gel? I have a couple of nice ones but don't have baths regularly enough to use them up!

I do this regularly, as I always seem to get some for birthdays/Christmas, and portable bidet use aside, I no longer bathe. I daren't sit down in a bath as my arthritis makes it very tricky to get up again. It's essentially the same chemicals used in both if you read the labels, just more water in bubble bath. I do pour bubble bath on to a bath puff/shower puff/whatever you choose to call it as it is tricky to control otherwise.
